I don't think the point of the video is to say the 86 is now better than an MP4.

I'd wager that as usual for these media arranged match-ups, they aren't allowed to go fully "metal to metal" around the circuit in a borrowed car worth over $200k. Also, the journo is a former british touring car driver, so more than evenly matched with the Fensport driver.

I find it most interesting that, once they decided to do a matchup, they decided to pick the McLaren as the car to match up against the circuit tuned GT86R. That tells me they couldn't find much in terms of production cars in it's league.

From what I know about these media matchups, it was probably more along the lines of, these guys are giving us some GT86s to review on the same day these other guys are giving us a Mclaren. How can we make this into something people will watch on the internet?

That may be possible, and I'm only second guessing from my past experience as a motor journalist, but a McLaren is much harder to get than, say, an M3 or 370Z.

Back to the office after the long trip to Subiefest and back. Another 2500 miles covered doing the Seattle to L.A. road trip. The car is, basically, only 100 miles off of 22,000 miles on the odometer, so that puts us at roughly 19,000+ miles on the turbo kit, I believe. Still going strong.

I tested some new equipment during this trip, and while I can't talk about all of it, yet, I can talk about the oil.

Oil testing - I've been testing our new FR-S/BRZ specific oil, and it's gone quite well. I've done two complete trips to L.A. and back on the same oil, and it's still in really good shape. Light brown in color, and hasn't gone down at all after 5000+ miles. From what we are finding, it's really important to stick with a good, full-synthetic 0w20 or 5w20 oil for this car. I can't really emphasize that enough.

I can mention we are working on suspension, and so far it's going good. We are making modifications based on our track and street testing, and the final product is going to be excellent.

I'm currently testing out something we are getting made specifically for the FA20 n/a and FI setups. It'll be announced at SEMA, just putting everything together right now.

I'd just like to note here that we are paying attention to the new tuning solutions that are appearing. We'll monitor them as they mature, and will see how they work with our kit.

But for now we will be sticking with EcuTek for the basemaps. It is still currently the most robust offering for tuning the BRZ/FR-S to work with FI, with many custom features that we feel are quite necessary for long term safety and performance.
