Looks good but mehhhhhhhhh

Anyways, it's already time for me to buy a new set of tires. Purchased in January, already down to 4/32 tread. Combination of the many weekend drives, 3 auto-x days, dd, and mostly hooning in the desert really took a toll on them.
Sounds like you got your money's worth, but it's hard to feel that way!

Sooooo. I drive for Uber and I'm thinking I should get winter tires to ensure I can keep working on any given day.

I have NEVER looked at winter compounds before.

Any of you northern-living folk have any solid recommendations? I would say my biggest concern is price first. My Uber is a business, so it's all about margins. I drive about 12K miles every 3 months, so far, so I expect they'll only make it through a season. That being said, I don't want to save $200 just to have a wreck.

Any of y'all have any recommendations before I throw my nose into the internet research?

Nokian WRG3 are miles better than other winter tires above 40, and are really good in everything but deep snow, where they're OK. Good enough they tell people they can be driven all year 'round and say "all weather". Most winter tires suck in warmer temps and are far mushier, but do a little better on ice and deep snow. WRG3 was originally a winter race tire.

That said, they're not cheap. These days even cheaper snow tires work far better than all seasons with snow and ice.. But suffer in wet and dry a little compared to the best all season tires. Tradeoffs.

I haven't done any snow driving in my FRS (well, there were 2 times on stock tires and both ended poorly) but back in my Saab days, I got some Continental DWS all seasons for upstate NY and New England. Not sure how much snow Pittsburgh gets, but as long as you drive to the conditions they work pretty darn good. Tread wear was fantastic for me. They still handled snow 20k+ miles later when I sold it. I think Continental has a second version out now, but haven't looked into it.

Also, I remember them being in the $110 ish range per tire.

Had to laugh...

I was on the Planet-9 site doeing a bit of Cayman research when I happened to run across a thread bitching about the "torque dip" at around 2500 RPM on the base 6 cylinder engines...
