This week is going great guys...
I hope you recover soon and your wife stays testing negative.

But then my job would sound more interesting than it actually is. I like it the other way around.

https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.105...0more%20weeks.

Just found this article. It's a study regarding vaccine effectiveness against omicron using records from the British surge. I don't have the time to check their methods myself. The TLDR is that the type of vaccine(s) you get strongly correlate to how effective it is. Even then, time degrades that protection somehow.

Basically, this study concludes the best you can hope for is 50-60% effectiveness against symptomatic omicron 10 weeks after the booster. This aligns with my own "study". 5 went in, 1 already infected, 2 more were infected at the end and 2 (oddly sitting closest to the infected one) were not.

Btw, I'm mostly recovered to the allergies baseline, but my wife (one of the 2 that weren't infected originally) got it from me. She seems to have a mild case so far.

glad it wasn't as bad for you, working as intended. hope you dont have any long term effects which seem to be a problem regardless of vax or not.

I don't remember being told the vaccine would just lessen severity when it was introduced. I remember terms such as eradication being bandied about.

Sales pitch on a best case scenario isn't new. With initial efficacy that was certainly a possibility if enough people were vaccinated before it mutated enough to change vaccine response. Clearly the first didn't happen and the latter did.
Not sure why it matters?

The vaccines do a good job at preventing someone from catching most of the strains of covid-19 that currently exist. That's why Omicron is the prevalent strain now, because it has evolved in a way that allows it to overcome defenses put in place by vaccines. All the other strains can't get a foothold and die out.

As mentioned, we were too slow to adopt and distribute the vaccines to the rest of the world. But the consolation prize to being vaccinated is the body starts attacking the virus more quickly, reducing the severity of disease.

Btw, my wife and I are fine. And I can taste things again. Mostly...

It matters when you are making laws and mandates and forcing people to do it.

It is not some advertising on TV to try and get you to do something or buy something out of your own volition and they are trying to convince you that its something you want or need but you have a choice.

It is something you are being forced by the government to do/take at the consequence of losing your livelihood if you don't. So the accuracy of what it does and doesn't do is incredibly vital.

Sure it was - though personally I believe that is a technicality, at that stage mutation rate was unknown.
