Would have never thought of using Best Buy as my go to reference, but from looking on PriceWatch and MicroCenter those seem to be the going prices, at least for the 6700XT.

Man I wish I had a Microcenter near me. The 6700XT prices, when it comes to special manufacturers such as PowerColor, MSI, etc, have been really high. Same thing for all other models. What blows my mind is the increased, overnight markups from places like Best Buy, which for me, is the only retailer near me. We're talking about a $400 markup on one of their XFX 6700. If retailers are asking for more money, that just means that scalpers will ask for even more. Unless is some sort of weird standoff between retailers and scalpers and see who gives in first. The ones that are affected are the real customers unfortunately

Yea, I'm fortunate there is one within driving distance. I used to also have a Fry's (actually two) within an hour of my house but they closed as part of Covid. There are still a few independent guys around here as well but you can't really get the deals from them like you could 10 or 15 years ago.

I really miss "computer shows" as well but just not that many folks rolling their own any longer. We used to have one somewhere in the Atlanta Metro area just about every month.

... was able to get my rig going with a used older card and have now become a pc gamer. age of empires 2 DE has some clunky menus. kinda weird using keyboard after having used controllers since NES days.

i've got one near me--clarendon hills location i believe. i can make a run on most saturdays and ship if needed..



used to be, i refused to spend any more than about $100 on graphics cards. got to the point i was buying refurbished cards almost every year, and constantly tweaking video settings to make things playable.

finally got sick of it back then and splurged on a 1070ti--was way more money than i ever wanted to spend on something like that.. man, i'm happy i did. it's still playing farcry 5 on full resolution, high quality settings, across 3 monitors, with zero issues.

I'm the exact opposite. I started "gaming" in the Apple II/IBM PC days and have always used a keyboard then later keyboard/mouse. Controllers are useless in my hands unless they are steering/flight controllers. I can sort of hold my own in a FPS, but in pretty much anything else I'm just fodder for the masses.

Ah man, I can remember the day I switched to PC gaming. I'd say around 2001-2002 with Aliens vs Predator 2 and Ghost Recon. I was still doing the Xbox and Xbox 360 for a while, but I'd say I slowly built an affinity to PC gaming.

I’ve always kind of liked both. My parents were always very against gaming so I wasn’t allowed to have a console. I played NFS underground series and Half life 2 + episodes and some other 2000-2008 games on my laptop.

I did end up buying an X360 slim in grad school because it was way cheaper than getting an equivalent PC. That’s when i shifted mostly to console and played through Skyrim, mass effect, and a couple of Forza’s.

Then I decided to build a PC when Valve announced HL Alyx. Good thing I did then because 9 months later buying a GPU was impossible. Ryzen 3800X with a 2080 Super. PC mod bug bit and I got a different case, ended up not liking it, I wanted as small a PC as reasonably possible that can be virtually silent with good cooling, so currently it’s set up in an NR200 with a big air cooler and I’m very happy with it now.
