But, there is a reason I’m looking at these versus a ND2. It’s because I have to drive it places other than canyons or racetracks. |

The jury is still out, no one has done any significant testing with these cars back to back - outside of a single qtr mile test where james did a 7 second 0-60 (that he thinks was perfect... :/) and still won. |

Any good reason to stick with 1st Gen?

I thought Camissa posted a tweed saying they clocked it going 0-60 in 5.6s with a 1ft rollout on primacies? Edit: I’m leaving it, posting a tweed is much funnier than tweet. |

Sports cars aren't about 0-60 (shocked I have to say this in an 86 forum), the ND/Fiata will still be 400# lighter with better suspension design.
If you want a commuter car then say so, don't pretend this is the best sports car on the market, it's not, but it's a damn good compromise. |

I guess I should have written find a better, less expensive and somewhat practical sports car.

Well, I want a sports car I can use as a commuter (which is what a large percentage of buyers of NEW sports cars at this price range want). Of course, better is subjective, and I've made no secret that I think there is nothing better about a Miata, so there is that.

Doesn't sound like you actually want a sports car to me but go ahead and live your best life. You shouldn't need my approval.

Like I said, I'd disagree with anyone who thinks right now that the MX5 is hands down a better sports car. We have had very little data between them, and what we have had has been pretty lame. |

Not everything is this black and white. I want a sports car that I can fit my kids in and I want to drive it every day. That doesn’t mean I want a ‘commuter car’. After daily driving my BRZ, my 335i bores me as a DD. Sure it’s fast, but it’s nowhere near as much fun to me. The BRZ is IMO the most fun you can have in a DD-able, practical enough car. Those thresholds are different for different people. Practical enough for me isn’t practical enough for someone else, or vice versa. Doesn’t help that I’m too tall for a Miata |

My pain with cars that are end if 00 or early 10s is electrical. When the gremlins start working, it is a pain. My car has 120k miles, great mechanically, paint is amazing, holding very well without rust, but The electrical side gives much headaches. To be fair, I was able to remove all dtcs (it had 64 that did show in 2019), but I am afraid how many may be back during winter.

And... I drive it all year round in the snow/salt belt of Syracuse. And.. I use it for gigging, loading a full 88-key heavy keyboard, an SWR Workingman 12 amp, a smaller amp, crate with cords, throne, keyboard stand, music stand, mic stands, blah blah blah in it. And.. my wife and I tent camp in it, loading a fairly large tent, cooler, stove, and enough other gear to have a great time in the OBX for a week or two. And ... I take my wife and my Kelpie to local establishments for fun, foam, and frolic frequently in it. None of those things are possible with a miata or S2000 (well, with snows, winter driving would work, although parking outside in the snow belt with a soft top to clear off would concern me.. but none of the hauling stuff). And.. when I'm not doing any of that... it's still a fun, cheap, manual, RWD sports car. It's that WHEN I'm doing all of that. Nothing else can do all of that. I admit I was a little disappointed when my 325i finally got eaten by salt, and I couldn't another one that wasn't ridiculously priced (was looking for an E36 specifically). "Settled" for the FRS, even though I'd never heard of it, because it popped up when I was searching specifically for RWD/manual. Enjoyed the test drive and figured it'd do, but wasn't as hooked then as I am now, 70K miles and six years later. I will buy another one when this one finally succumbs to our winters. It'll be a while.

Reason I'm holding is to see how well I can modify mine to compete with the newer version now that my warranty is gone. Although that stiffer chassis idk how I'd compete with that one, I read somewhere that it has a 50% stiffer chassis compared to the 1st gen along with a slightly longer wheel base I believe (I could be wrong I did read it somewhere). There's also all the R&D the new gen would need so if I pick the 2nd gen 4-6 years from now I'd have a good list of mods alo see how the new engine does.
