You know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. You sound like a close minded crotchety old fart. Your loss.

is this Apple vs PC

Apple is more expensive... blah blah
PC I can make myself and upgrade when I need too.

They are both RWD, fun to drive, and get your to and from places.

It's hardly a "new trick" to not have to clutch and shift manually.

The auto is slower, so the loss is for those who can't do it and/or don't care to learn...

, I had fun 3am this morning. I went for a ride on Santiago Cyn road past Cooks Corner to Trabuco Cyn past O'Neil Park. Then boogied up the hill to Rancho Santa Margarita then I turned around went back the same. What a blast in the dark. My AT FRS performed beautifully. It was a 100+ mile trip after all said and done. This was my fourth trip on Santiago Cyn. 2 at night 2 during the day. I did Ortega Hwy on Monday. When I bought my FRS, from Longo Scion I did Azuza Cyn to Chrystal Lake then to Mt. Baldy via Glendora Mtn road. On Father's day, after Dad's, I went home on Topanga Cyn Road to PCH then the freeways home back to the OC. I have over 1300 mile on my car in only 3 weeks. Say what you will, at least I'm driving my FR-S on fun mountain roads.

I've driven a manual for 30 years. Until you drive the FRS AT, you don't know how good it works.

I drove it. It was somewhat better than manually shifting my old 318 Plymouth Duster's 3-speed auto, but not as immediate as I hoped. Even if the auto doesn't have an acceleration penalty (haven't seen them compared head-to-head), I don't like the disconnected feeling when driving normally. The lag between tapping on the paddle and getting an upshift feels like your a step or two further removed. Sales lady was with me, so I didn't give it any full-throttle upshifts at high rpm, hopefully they are more immediate. Definitely prefer the manual, even if they had the same ratios. Add the fact that the auto has much wider-spaced ratios and I'm all the more for the manual. I'm not against all "flappy paddle" gearboxes, but this one isn't for me.

That said, if these cars only came with the autobox, I'd still be interested in getting one. MUCH more so than any other new car on the market.
