Lies spread like a plague man.....

It has nothing to do with Ethanol content. It has only to do with the pump internal design. Nothing is breaking down, nothing wrong.

To try and stop the stupid myth, I've run ethanol free gas to E85 and the chirp is the same on all fuel types.

My advice is turn up the radio. After 2+ years of chirps I've pretty much tuned it out.

Seriously, all these people posting solutions about how to fix the chirp, and how NOT to fix the chirp... You're going to be getting a bunch of mixed responses. To my knowledge there is no fix. It's luck of the draw, or the problem to this isn't what we think it is.

Someone mentioned earlier that using ethanol-free fuel will eliminate the chirps, but how does that explain my chirp-less engine (knock on wood) that uses fuel which may contain up to 10% ethanol?

Sad that there isn't a concrete method on how to fix this issue. Even more sad that the 2015 Series.Blue still carries this issue.

why does everyone and their mother get their panties in a wad about chirping.

Order of most horrible things, according to 86 owners(about 90% anyway):
1. Crickets/Chirping
2. car slow
3. Genocide

It is not an issue. It's already been explained. It's just a sound. DI engines typically sound weird. This is not the exception.

So I shouldn't worry about it then? Hearing that some have been driving with it for over 2 years seems like I should be okay. Just wasn't sure since everyone on the forums were complaining about it. Thanks for the insight

Well, just based on experience. Everyone has been running with this "cricket" sound for 2 years plus. I know some owners on the 70k miles range. No issues. It is really really rare for a mechanical pump to fail and thus far it hasn't failed. I've never worried about it failing and no one honestly should be concerned about it. If it were an issue where they will fail it would be already a known issue and pattern of failures.

How is it not an issue? Just because it is a sound it isn't considered an issue?

Then why do some cars have it, and some cars don't? Just because it doesn't have a performance, or actual impact on the car, it can affect the driver's experience - which is a fundamental component of the 86. I consider it an issue as do many others.

Call it what you want but an "issue" is something that is going bad/breaking/needs fix before it fails. The HPFP is none of that.

HPFP internals explained http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41776

This is a summary of the findings.

Quote:
The pump I have has been used with both E-85 and the countries shittiest gas (Calpis 91) the piston has a witness mark on it that matches the witness mark on the washer, but the plating on the piston (DLC) is still in great shape with no signs of flaking or chipping. I will assume at this point that this is the intended purpose of the washer, it would seem that the washer was meant to be restrained in the assembly, and the level of restraint maintained by each individual washer maybe the difference between a noisy pump and a silent pump. I have full confidence in the factory desing and see nothing to worry about in my findings. I will continue to run my noisy pump until...the next thing happens

So the crickets have finally arrived and all I can say is really!!! Car has 1,100mi on the clock now and you can only hear this at a stop with the windows down and the radio off. So basically I will hardly ever hear it and can't believe so much hype over basically nothing. We are so spoiled/demanding as a society in whole it's kinda amazing...
