Update.

Dealer has confirmed knocking. They will not touch the engine until someone from corporate comes down and watches them take it apart.

I won't have any updates until then.

Vehicle Mileage: 77000 km
Vehicle Make: 2013 Scion FR-S
Mileage After Recall Performed: 3000 km
Symptom(s): Loss of power followed by loud grinding/knocking noises. The engine would stall at idle.
Failure: Too early to tell.
State: QC
Is Dealership Offering Repair: I hope so, The car is still covered under the original 5 year 100,000 km powertrain warranty. It's at the Spinelli Toyota dealership in Pointe-Claire QC.

I uploaded video of the noise on YT and I'll keep this post updated.

Mileage before recall 877xx
Mileage now 88888

2 weeks after recall i noticed a knocking noise and losing power i took it to the dealer who did the recall they kept it for 4 days told me they didnt hear a noise and gave it back noise started later that day omce car was warmed. Toyota kept it for 3 weeks dropped the oil pan and found rtv sealent in the pickup they cleaned it told me it was good gave it back and within 30 miles the car died now they are saying it ismt their fault. Ove called corperate and another dealer who i brought the car to and they are calling a engineer in to do a total teardown

Knocking only after one month and 1000 miles after J02 recall work

Vehicle Mileage:38k
Vehicle Make: scion
Mileage After Recall Performed:1000
Symptom(s):knocking-clicking-check engine light blinking- on low rpms seemed like it wanted to die- louder knocking
Failure: as soon as I heard the knocking- I immediately went to the dealship- TBD
State:TBD
Is Dealership Offering Repair: After sitting in the dealership since 3/25- they claim that they couldn’t replicate the sound- so therefore I just have to pick it up and wait till it makes the sound again- obviously I immediately called Toyota corporate

Hi folks, Chris Tsui from TheDrive.com here. I am currently in contact with Subaru and it sounds like they are actively trying to track down the 7 BRZ owners here that have reported issues. To do that, they need VINs. I have added a VIN column to our handy spreadsheet. If you could update your entries to include those, that'd be great.

Get you added to that list! The more data there is, the better.

Valve spring recall failure

Vehicle mileage:76,361
Vehicle Make:2013 Subaru BRZ
Vehicle VIN: JF1ZCAC19D1602863
Mileage After Recall Performed: 77,191
Symptom(s): tapping noise coming from engine when under load (sounds like Valves tapping to me, but dealership keeps saying otherwise)
Failure: they still don’t know (has been at dealership since 18 February 19)
State: VA
Is Dealership Offering Repair: the dealership swears they have checked their work and it was nothing they did wrong. They did have to order shims and some of the valves were loose but they fixed the valve lash and it’s still making same noise. They have returned my exhaust and intake back to stock (exhaust aft of all sensors, and air raid intake with oilless filter.). Dealership is still trouble shooting but have told me since they are sure it has nothing to do with their work I am responsible for paying from this point forward unless they do find it is something related to the valve job, and are charging me $571 to install the stock exhaust and intake on top of it. Also it is worth noting I just spent 5,500 in July at around 69,000 miles for a new shortblock replaced by Subaru (it had an oil starvation issue but I was outside the warranty so he’d to pay myself) and the car was running perfectly fine before I dropped it off for the recall.

How do I get on the list? I added my info like it said, just making sure I am getting the info in the right spot.
