Flashing back to stock Ecutek, no deskey dongle

Hello friends,

I've searched and searched but I cannot find a clear answer.

I bought my car used off a friend. It has an Ecutek tune on the ecu right now. He gave me the Ecutek cable but he doesn't have the deskey dongle. I wish to return the car back to the stock tune. Is it possible to do this WITHOUT the deskey dongle?

I also have a tactrix cable, from my research I can't simply overwrite the Ecutek tune with tactrix as it's locked. Is my understanding correct?

Thank you in advance.

Ideally you want to borrow an Ecutek usb so you can flash a stock tune and keep the license on the ECU. Someone local should let you borrow one, takes just a minute to do the flash.

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to find someone local.

Don't you need a key match to the ecu? Or only for custom tunes?

I *think* only for the tunes. Once the license gets transferred to the ECU then any DESKey should work for reading/wwriting to it/etc. We've read random coparts cars ECUs with any available DESKey before and it worked.

Have never tried to write any tune to one of those cars though, including stock, however since you can download the stock tunes it shouldn't require any specific dongle. That will also remove the lock. If the car gets tuned by anything after that the ECUTek license is lost though.
