Unhappy FT-86 Speedfactory Catback Voiding Warranty

So, I stopped by my dealer today to pick up my plates and while I was there went by the service dept. I asked the guy there if they would install a catback on my FR-S, since I just ordered the V1 from FT86 Speedfactory. The guy told me he wasn't sure because installing it could void the warranty, but that I would need to talk to the manager. Did I just waste over $800 on a catback?

A catback won't void your warranty. You can be denied a warranty claim if the catback is what caused the problem.

Simplest way to put it, but yes you're right.

Catback wont void warranty. OP, why are you asking your dealer anyway? They're just going to charge you a ton of money to put it on when it takes about an hour to do it yourself with just some race ramps.

I asked them because I've heard some dealers are installing after martket catbacks (non TRD) prior to sale, so if it's a dealer install I might have some leeway with warranty issues.

Perhaps keeping my original exhaust will be a simple fix for this. I can just swap them out should the need arise.

Also, didn't mean to single out FT-86 Speedfactory, they've been great to me, which is part of why I chose their system.

If you REALLY need to have someone install it for you, take it to an exhaust shop or reputable shop in your area and pay half the price for 2x quality the work..having dealers install aftermarket parts hasn't lead to good results for people in the past.

I would just install it myself, they might mess up somewhere and will cause you headaches later on. I believe it uses a V band clamp as well, the dealer may just accidentally over tighten the clamp and bye bye clamp.

And no, it should not void your warranty, if they say that it does, I would just take it to another dealership

You didn't waste $800 on a catback.. But you wasted time talking to an idiot who doesn't know shit.

This is so true.. I always had good results and more than reasonable prices dealing with muffler shops. Sometimes simple bolt ons don't line up or some bolt is frozen and won't come off.. These places know how to deal with all that crap.. Way better than a dealership who's primary purpose is selling u services and things you don't need..

Also try and find a local smaller shop to do the install. You will literally save $100's in the labor. Dealers don't pay for those massive buildings by charging cheap rates.
