Did this problem start when you replaced the looms and switches?

Yes it did. When I first completed it all there were no lights at all on the switches. I did the different reset actions and now there are the flashing lights. I thought the windows would not go up before I did the reset but that could have been because I was always trying with the door open. The looms and plugs are all in perfect condition taken off a vehicle of same year, same transmission.

Mine was due to a bad drivers side switch. No reset procedure would fix it. Since you already replaced the switch though then.. no clue. I would inspect your wiring work though, I'd assume the fault has to be there.

So water in the switch might have killed mine.. I thought it was when it slammed between the door and rollbar (I absolutely hate the terrible hinges on these cars and the self-shutting doors).. but it then poured down rain at the same time. I'm not sure if it was the impact - or the rain.

I checked the alps switch - drivers side and it has no water damage - looks great. I have been trying all day to work out with the wiring diagram (found on here) how this system works and I keep coming back to the ECU. I can just remove the purple wire from the connector that plugs into the window switch and that allows me to get out of the car and close the door without the window coming down and staying partly open but that is not a good long term solution. Is this something that can be programmed at the dealers do you think?
