You can see the tool marks on the flanges. (Swirl patterns from the cutter) My worry is that those tool marks are deep enough to prevent a good seal. But Dimman is the professional machinest and has seen many, many more parts than I have. If he's saying its only a weird lighting situation I'll take his word for it.

Anyone so far has had any issues with leaks via the exhaust port flanges?

LOL

It's not going to leak. The flanges are the flattest I've ever seen a header flange. The stock Subaru gaskets are very good quality.

If you do the install correctly and tighten down the studs, nothing is going to leak.

That's a CNC machined flange, the surface texture is tooling marks--there's no sealing issue here. If it was the surface of a cylinder head, yes you want to maintain an almost mirror RA finish. This this an exhaust flange. What's important is that it's flat, the gasket will take care of the rest.

PTUNING 4-1 Full T304 SS Equal Length Double-Slip Race Header (200+whp 93 pum...

@Mrc@ptuning does the header have rasp? This also goes for any member that has it installed. I'm sure mine isn't any different but I running stock cat back and I have rasp when blipping throttle or accelerating. I'm new to the header world mostly I've owned forced induced cars. Thanks

Hey yonmy, do you have any video of your car with the header? I was looking to run it with the stock catback as well. Thanks

I'll take one today with my camera. It doesn't sound bad, but used to the stock exhaust there's definitely more sound coming from there. I'll get the video up.

Anytime you're on the throttle or a specific RPM?
I can barely hear some but only at low RPMs (around 2k).
I have stock catback as well.

With the windows down I could hear it pretty much most of the time. It just sounds like the sound it makes, not a leak. I'll check tomorrow for leaks again. I started the car while on jack stands and checked but no leaks that I could detect. On a cold start you could really hear it.

Here are a couple of videos, now that i see them the rasp sounds a bit louder from the outside, then again no camera mic setup is perfect and things sound slightly different(better) in person. I tightened the header/head nuts to 25-30 ft lbs(glimpsed thick manifold flange) same as the overpipe to header to front pipe.. I'm 99% sure that all is pretty tight as i didn't hear anything when i was laying under the car while it was running. I also tightened each runners connecting nuts... or what ever those are called as well as the vband. Maybe the guys could chime in, they would know if it sounds like this @Mrc@ptuning @peace2ptuning @ptuning and what specs to torque these to.

What kinda of midpipe do you have? Is your whole exhaust stock except for the headers?

Yeah stock except tomei over pipe. I know bigger diameter exhaust will flow better and less restriction makes for smoother sounding exhaust. The sound comes from the header. I think these nice looking stainless mirror finished exhausts/headers sound like this. Could be the material is thinner? I'm just speculating, I don't know anything about metals or exhausts but I know back in the days in my s2000 I had a Megan header and sounded similar.
