AC hot air during idle
Hey guys. Was wondering if somebody could chime in and let me know which direction both radiator fans are supposed to be blowing in?
Reason why I'm asking is I recently replaced both my stock rad and fan shrouds for a Koyorad and Mishimoto shroud. Well, during the process I accidentally removed the high pressure discharge bolt on the condenser by mistake (yeah I know, wasn't paying attention) and accidentally released refrigerant. The o-ring was pretty much shot so I had to take the car to the dealer to replace it, refill R134 and leak test my AC (a $269 ordeal for one measly $3 o-ring mistake) Well, now my problem is the AC seems to be extremely weak during idle. When the car's stopped it blows nothing but hot air, even with recirc on. This of course changes, when I'm on the road/moving and the AC becomes freezing cold. I've searched through multiple threads and various other forums on AC systems and can't seem to find a conclusive answer to my AC idle problem. Could this be because my shroud fans are blowing in opposite directions (currently driver side pushes air outside, while passenger pulls air into engine)? Were the stock fans both drawing air from outside and blowing into the engine? Or is there another cause? Mind you the mechanic told me the leak test passed and the one bolt/o-ring was the only thing I touched by accident. The whole AC system worked perfectly fine before I started my rad/shroud install. Please help! |

Normally, radiator fans either suck or blow air through the radiator core (depending upon what side they are on).
You may wish to re-check your shroud install procedure. humfrz |

Low refigerant level will also cause system to be inefficient especially at idle

Just pay it. The system needs to be cleaned and recharged and possibly a new dryer. The fans are puller fans. The pull through the radiator an evaporator.

During idle if its super hot you'll get warm air. It's not until you are at higher rpm's and driving that it gets cool.

I was thinking along the lines of after the repair its strill leaking or they did not put in the correct amount/type of gass

I'm going to unplug the wires tomorrow and swap them around. Hopefully this will make that 2nd fan blow in the same direction as the other one (which is towards the engine bay by drawing from the radiator and condenser). |

Solved! I de-pinned the two wires on the driver side fan and swapped them around (to match the passenger side wires). Now both fans are drawing air from the radiator/condenser/outside and blowing inwards towards the engine bay.
I cannot for the life of me understand how Mishimoto missed this simple step in their QA process. Simple mistake I'm assuming during their manufacturing and wiring of these fans onto their shroud. It's just a pain that I had to remove and fix this myself. AC runs cold now during idle. Probably because hot air is removed properly now instead of being pulled outwards, passing through rad and condenser in the process. |

I hate it when things suck instead of blow!

Good morning guys,
As incredible as this may sound, I have just found the same issue (yes, today, 30th July 2019) as @Initial_RD had on 2016. I have recently bought a second hand Toyota GT86, which comes with Mishimoto fans installed. Hot air on A/C when car is idle, checked the fans and BINGO one of them blows air against the radiator itself (instead of blowing to the engine bay). I have been able to find the connector for the fan which blows wrong, but I'm facing some trouble when trying to de-pin the connector. As I wouldn't like to damage it, would somebody be so kind to give me some basic instructions to do it? I'm attaching here a link to a photograph of the connector itself. (https://imgur.com/XBzZjTw) Thank you all very much, kind regards David |
