Traction - Where is it?

It's been a while since I've had a turbo car, and my last one was a 240SX with a SR20DET in it. I used to drag them at the strip all the time (and drift em), and one thing I hardly recall having an issue with was traction. I would typically swap the rear end for a 2-way LSD and never had tires more than 8.5" wide on the back. My fastest runs were in the 13's.

With that said today I took out a black BRZ I just completed that is completely stock with a 6 speed transmission. I had spoken to a tuner recently about him almost never being able to get or keep traction, so I wanted to see what he was talking about. So today I opened it up and when I shifted into second the tires actually spun... Then when I shifted into third they chirped. I'm used to a chirp, but not the spin - especially not with only 160hp making it to the ground.

I'm wondering if this traction issue is due to the Torsen LSD in the back? The tuner said he was running stock everything from the transmission back. Anyone out there with a 1.5 or 2 way LSD in the back? Are you having traction issues?

I didn't realize Michelin was such a poor tire brand...? Or is it just the ones they put on this car?

They one that they put on your car is an average tire. Traction isn't the best on it. These are meant to tske you from point a to point b and nothing more. I would advise that you get better tires if you want traction in this car.

They actually are a great tire. Just not on these cars. They are LRR meant for fuel economy, and they do that well. Grip? Ahhhh, not so much lol. They are fun though

you understand that Brand has nothing to do with performance, right? Every manufacturer makes multiple performance categories of tires.

Yep I have pilot super sports and the grip way Better I can no longer chirp or spin any gear. First gear requires a clutch dump to spin. I'm running 245 35r18 though.

Is this thread for real? @TurboBRZ... you take a car with stock tires, roughly double the horsepower and wonder why you have no traction??

I took a stock car with stock tires and did a straight run from 1st through 3rd. Nothing modified about the car.

I also have made no claims about Michelin being garbage - if you couldn't tell my post was sarcastic and ended in a question mark. To my knowledge Michelin is a very good brand depending on what you're doing with them.

At 160hp even with the tires it has, it shouldn't spin in 2nd gear - that was an engineering mistake for the designers of this car. Please read next time.
