BTW I've never owned anything heavier than 3200 lb and this would only be the 2nd automatic car I've owned - so huge departure. But I have a huge crush on the sounds those C63s make!

A friend of mine has a car lot and has had a handful of C63’s. I’ve ridden with him in a few and they don’t feel as fast as they are. It’s strange because you watch the speedo and it’s climbing rapidly but the butt dyno doesn’t seem to match. Have you driven one yet? It’s definitely a departure from the Twins, S2000 or Cayman, that is for sure.

Couldn’t agree more. Weight is a far more important metric than power.

If you're going to stretch, go for an older Elise! You can get decent ones in the low 30's nowadays.

Oh I agree with you all on that front. Heaviest car I've ever had was 3200 lb (Golf Wagon TDI) and the heaviest sports car I've ever owned was the Cayman (2998 lb as weighed at RRR). But I think a drastic change could be fun, for a bit.

Failure points on the M156 engine are: stretched head bolts, stuck (open) fuel injectors, premature wear on camshafts and premature failure of cam adjusters. The last two happen from not following a rigorous oil change regiment. The faulty headbolts were replaced with a redesigned part midway through 2010 and do not afffect later year models.

I drove a P31 C63 this past Monday afternoon. P31 denotes that it has the forged engine internals from the SLS M159 engine, LSD, 2 piece front brake rotors and painted brake calipers. It also has 30 more hp (481 vs 451) but that is a moot point really as the engine was artificially restricted from the factory and a simple ECU tune bumps the power from 451 to 540ish hp. The car I drove had, besides a tune, long tube headers and aftermarket midpipes. The sound was insane, yet completely civil when cruising around off throttle. Current owner recently had the transmission fluid flushed, fuel injectors and spark plugs replaced and valve cover gaskets replaced. Its something that I would track just 1-2 times a year.

Tempting, even though I've been a die hard 3 pedal guy my whole driving life. Can always sell the car if I get tired of it.

Honestly I think a heavy, automatic, fast car is going to get boring quickly. But looks like you've done your research, test drove the car and enjoyed it.

So I say go for it. You've had a number of lightweight cars in the past, may as well try something different. You'll know for sure whether you enjoy driving it over the next year. Like you said, if you don't like it, you can sell it and pick up a gen 2 BRZ at that point. Main thing you'd be paying is the taxes on the transaction.

If you're on somewhat of a budget and you track often - it's going to eat your consumables (brakes, tires, etc.) at a much higher rate.

Again, 1-2 times a year at most. I'm well aware of the consumables cost going up.

More of a factor if I wanted to keep it for a long time and do 3-4 events a year.

Actually researched pads and rotors and tires. Costs almost the same as the Cayman (but would probably burn up 2-3 times as fast hehehe)

If you're ok with fisher price level interior, C5 Z06 is an amazing deal. My old roommate had one, and that car feels so visceral

I've thought about those. And the horrible interior would just encourage me to strip and cage that bad boy hahaha.

@WolfpackS2k lightly used unmodified 2020 supra?

It literally drives like a modern s2k coupe. Even the dimensions are virtually identical.

I'll break from (manual transmission) loyalty for a crazy ass V8.

Won't do the same for a BMW I6

Also @CSG Mike, is the CSG BRZ still for sale?

That BMW I6 is arguably better than the Merc V8!

I'm a huge fan of the 4.0 TT.

The CSG BRZ is not, but my BRZ is. I put a halt on the sale as the 2022 was coming out sooner than expected, but the car could be available for the right buyer anytime.
