I can see your mom's point if all you are doing is taking photos of dirty brake drums...

Yep. Now people take pictures of their lunch. Of the 6 or 7 really cool (to me) cars that I had and restored I probably have 10 pictures in total that have survived the decades. Even then most of those were of something else and the car just happens to be in the background.

There were other options. There was this thing called a "library" that had pretty much every repair manual you could ask for that you could borrow for free.
Unless of course some jerk borrowed it and never returned it.

Ya, @Dake , I have the same question. -

Back in the day, when I took something apart, I would just lay the pieces in order of me taking them apart and orientated proper on the barn floor.

Now, that worked, unless your little brother would come along and rearrange them -

Oh, yes, I remember when manuals were one page, which showed where things were. If you needed to know more than that, you had no business taking the machine apart -

That brings on a back-in-the-day story.

A good friend of mine's wife called me one night and said that the latching/locking mechanism on her front door wouldn't work, the door couldn't even close. Since her husband was in China on business, she feared for herself and her 3 children.

Of course, I came to the rescue with my tool box. After a couple of drinks, I started in on this project. Dang, what a complex mechanism. I disassembled the whole mechanism and carefully laid out all the pieces in a line, in order, across the hall floor.

She offered me another drink, so I had two. Meanwhile, one of the twins (about 3 years old) decided to help me out by pushing all the pieces into a pile. Shit, that called for another drink.

After about an hour, I finally got it figured out, fixed and put back together, so it would close and lock.

I guess I should have drawn a picture -
