Hey guys! So after two attempted thievery in our place (one for the bike, another for a huge jack I store outside in a hidden stash), I am contemplating on selling my bike rack and switching over to folding bikes instead, so I can put them in the trunk where they will actually be safer, or store it inside the apartment (they will fit, but not full bikes). Any good recommendations? Looking for a road bike. I saw this site, they're a bit expensive but the bike rack may pay for more than half of its price. http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bike/

How much are you thinking of selling for?

Got the bars from that-guy this past week and a 1up rack as well. Holds the bike perfectly. Couple comments: On my set, the groove in the bars that the 1up rack brackets are supposed to fit in was maybe a couple thousandths too narrow, making it hard to get the rack to seat into the groove easily. I fixed that in about 1 minute by just kissing the 1up brackets with my bench grinder.

Secondly, my 1up rack came with really long carriage bolts, so the female screw thingies (technical term) that clamp the rack were bottoming way before tightening the rack to the bars. This has nothing to do with that-guy's parts, it's just a feature of the 1up rack itself. I cut about ten threads off the carriage bolts, and everything is fine. Did anyone else have that issue? Seems strange I am the only one to mention it, or I just missed it.

Now that everything fits, it takes less than three minutes to assemble everything and load the bike. No changeover is needed to switch from my road bike to my mtn bike. Super nice setup, thanks to that-guy for making the bars.

Mike

Yeah. Got rafter hoists for my bikes too.
Still haven't figured the bracing to hold up a twin yet.

Any hints?

Finally got mine done, same deal. Bought some 1 1/4" stainless rod, made a drawing, took them and my OEM towhook to a machinist. Told him the threaded end needs to match the tow hook. They're heavy, but they work. In the future I might have them cut down and end turned down to fit inside a tube, but in reality I'll prob just leave it like it is.

Thanks guys for all the comments and images. They look great and I'm glad everyone is enjoying them!

I've been away for a few weeks (destination wedding, moving into a new home, etc), so I haven't been able to attend to the slew of PM's I've received on this. But to those inquiring about buying these, unfortunately I'm not a vendor here and I only ran off a couple small batches to help out some forum members. I'll look into what would be required to run off another batch, but it likely wont be for a few months as I'm swamped right now. My apologies as I'd love to help but funds and time to get this into gear are just not there right now.

Sorry!

I also received the tow hook bars from that_guy from his last batch and recently had a chance to try them out. I went with the 1up rack as well, and ran into the same problem mistressmotorsports did with the 1up brackets not fitting into the grooves on the bars. I just had to shave maybe 1mm off the side to get them to fit.

After that everything went together perfectly and the bike rack feels rock solid. Quick and easy setup and tear down. Very happy with this solution.

Thanks that_guy!

Sounds like 1UP changed the dimensions of the lower bracket because there is 4-5mm of space on mine where they fit into the channel. If I run another batch, I'll be sure to make an adjustment to the dimensions. Thanks for pointing this out guys!
