Tranny Question

I have a 2013 BRZ, and I'm replacing the clutch. My mechanic noticed some slight play in the pilot shaft of the transmission. Is this normal?

Well, it has to have a bit of play for it to work.

I'll summon our transmission expert @Ultramaroon for his insight.

Perfectly ok. It has to float radially (up, down, sideways) a bit to take up manufacturing variations. Nothing is perfect.

Once it's in, the pilot bearing holds it in alignment. That's it's job.

Axial (in out) is a different story BUT... You would hear it whining badly way before you could see it.

So you are saying if you give a tranny a little axial and radial wiggle it is okay?
