Wondering what everyone’s opinions are on the different options in the market. I’ve read a lot of comments of false HP gains being advertised. Thanks 🙏

2013 Subaru BRZ, have a catted uel header and a cat back exhaust system. Getting a front pipe soon as well.

General consensus is that cold air intakes are just for show/sound and all HP gains to be had can be found in a drop in filter that cost 25$

Leave the stock filter in it.

False Advertised HP gains aren’t unique to CAI pretty much all mods. They often do baseline and then mod+tune but don’t specify or distinguish the gains from the mod itself vs the tune itself, Or they test in subpar conditions for baseline and ideal conditions for the after mod results, or just completely falsify the results/data.

You’ll get probably 2-3whp from a high flow drop in and about 4whp from a CAI.
Grimmspeed CAI seems to be the primary one to get legit results without tricking the MAF, perrins is also pretty good but I’d replace the filter with a dry filter, xero limit 2.75" Inlet, 11" Ultra High Flow filter if you’re skilled you can swap without bumper removal.

Is it worth the money or hassle for an extra 1-2whp over drop in. That’s up to you.

I wouldn't strike off TRD intake aswell. Grimmspeed's might perform a bit better, but TRD also is one that doesn't mess with MAF sensor, and one of rare mods that can be had with official CARB cert sticker that may mater to ones in cali. It doesn't claim unlike those CAI (except grimmspeed's) and doesn't net much gains though and cost a lot, but alongside to pros of not having illsides (but cost) also one that retains OEMish looks, deletes soundtube & improves sound (subjective thing).

Not like we have a filter stuck on top of the carbs with a wing nut anymore.

Yup. Grimmspeed or TRD if you must have one, many others actually lose power. The stock intake is very hard to improve upon on this car.

I have the Grimmspeed intake and am happy with it. In the original Grimmspeed development thread it showed minor improvements while maintaining stock maf values.
I do like how it sounds, how it removed the sound tube neatly and the round pod style filter stays usable longer than a washable panel filter for me in the dusty environments I tend to drive in.
I don't like that it tends to heatsoak a fair bit more than the stock intake. I have wrapped it in reflective tape and that helps.

Cooling was a big deal for me given the hot temps I saw on the mountains with spirited driving. I decided to get a few things but one of them being a Greddy intake snorkel. Didn't make much of a difference on butt dyno until I ran a rich tune on OFT. Greddy intake snorkel > high flow filter (stock box) > aftermarket intake tube. Im also running a catted UEL header. Temps are a none issue between the snorkel and oil cooler.

The biggest difference with the intake setup was felt after running a slightly richer tune and that really woke up the car. No dyno tune yet but maybe one day if I ever have some time.
