Brake rotor differences between base and Sport-tech BRZ

There was an off-topic discussion in this thread about whether or not there are any differences in the brake rotors between the base and Sport-tech BRZ models.

I called the parts desk at a Subie dealer this morning to see if the part numbers are identical for the brake rotors on the base and Sport-tech models. The parts manager said he did not have the February update yet, but according to his database, the front rotors are common to both, but the rear ones have different part numbers. He could not give me the rotor dimensions so we still don't know what the differences are though. (According to the Canadian BRZ options sheet PDF from April, the Sport-tech rotors are thicker but not bigger.)

Hmm... Interesting. Let us know what you find out. It could turn out to be a cheap and easy upgrade for the FR-S.

Why worry, rotors are wearing parts that are usually just replaced these days. You would do better in terms of value buying non-OEM rotors if you want better braking.

On the Scion I do recall noticing both the rear and front rotors were vented which is not typical for the price point.

FYI- according to Subaru Canada website specs, the diameter and thickness of the rear rotors are identical in both models.

As mentioned in the other thread, I was explicitly told by an HQ staffer that the website information was wrong.

Burrcold just measured his sport tech and his rotors are same thickness as my FR-S. See CIAS thread under Canada.

As I said in the other thread, there are no models sold anywhere that come with 40mm thick rotors stock.

The only different brakes are the Australian GT (base) model, which has smaller diameter fronts and non vented rears.

If you look at the WRX front brakes (which these cars use), there's no 40mm thick rotors either. A 40mm thick rotor is 1.5" thick, which is massively thick.

Anyone here have a base BRZ to measure the rotors on? The smaller rotors (Ausi GT) are like 272mm IIRC, the exact dimensions are in the other thread.

Aside from physically measuring the rotors, compare the part numbers of the calipers and pads. If they're the same, then the rotor has to be the same, dimensionally. If not, then who knows what the difference is - my guess would be the hub offset. But it seems unlikely the rotors are different.

And to be honest, the rear brakes do maybe 25% of the total braking, so I wouldn't be too worried about it. Besides, I highly doubt anyone will notice the difference anyway if the rotors were different for whatever reason.

in japan base model brz/86 have non ventilated rear roters as well. if thats the only difference i wouldnt worry at all.
