If they do cancel this car early, and being the first owner, I may actually keep this car for the 20 years I planned to from the start.

If Toyota does stop it, can Subaru still make the BRZ?

I think both Subaru and Scion could do a better job of advertising. When I started telling people about the FR-S I am about to buy, more than 90% of them tell me that they've never heard of or ever seen the car.

This sounds like bullshit to me.
How does the car go from "exceeding their expected sales" for 2013, and then 2 months into 2014 (the worst months for sports car sales btw), and now sales are below expectations all across the board? Ha. This thread, reminds me of this: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ"]Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up - YouTube[/ame]

Have you ever surfed a wave? Or made a mess of it? Introducing a product to market is much the same thing.
You need to pick a good wave, you need to be already moving in the right direction when it reaches you, you then have to standup without a bobble and stay in the zone. Then you can show off! I don't think that Toyota and Subaru judged the wave quite right, got moving in the right direction, or managed to stand up without a few bobbles. The result is not so much going to be a wipeout as just a slow slide off the back of the wave. If they want to pour money into it, they might go out in style with a financial wipe-out, but I don't see it. I call a 5-6 year lifespan for the line. When people ask me what I think of the car, I tell them that I love driving it, but that's the only thing I like about the car. I happen to enjoy driving so that's good enough for me. On the other hand, 98 percent of the people on the road do NOT like to drive, they tolerate it, so the Toyobaru would be a terrible vehicle to them. Redemption might come if the platform shows some sort of long term reliability like the Miata did. In that case the used car market will come to the aid of the cause. Early indicators are not positive for this, but lets see how they hold up past the magic 5 year mark and how quick they turn into rust. I won't buy another one because I am sure that there will be another newer and more interesting option to try after this one. |

I won't believe this until 2015. If the FR-S doesn't get any update at that point, then I will expect its demise. Regardless, I am still going to enjoy my car. I am not looking for the next latest and greatest. I actually should hold onto my cars longer than I have in the past.

Other car manufactures will learn from the FR-S/BRZ mistakes.

Historically speaking, when sales plateau or decline, typically these events can occur...
A) Change of body style B) Increase of performance (from the factory) C) Both A & B One of my good friends just came back from Japan and he stated 86s are on fire over there. It is difficult to imagine them discontinuing the twins this early in the game. As others have mentioned, they (Subaru/Toyota) can do a better job with their marketing. |

Everyone should keep in mind that if the FRS tanks after 2 years on the market, Nissan will most likely cancel their plans for the IDX.

Maybe Scion will end the production of the FR-S but the BRZ will live on. I would prefer them to not produce the sedan and cabriolet as I personally find them ugly. What matters most to both manufactures are numbers. What were their projected goal vs what they sold to date?

Hope they really stop it... can't wait to see my car be the next NSX, 5 years later after I paid it off. Its worth more than what I pay for.

This has gotta be some sort of stunt. They were selling as fast as they could make them for the first year - I couldn't find one on a dealer lot every time I went in. If they didn't sell enough, it's because they didn't PRODUCE enough.

Doesn't affect me at all. I already have my baby and plan to keep her forever.
