Ya they all had a fob button to unlock the door but I meant touch to unlock.

IF i remember correctly an actual trunk button to unlock the trunk from the outside wasnt added until one of the refresh years.

You had to either use the keyfob, the trunk release button on the drivers side of the dash, or the hidden physical keyslot where the rear license plate lights are.

Im guessing its one of those early "cost saving" measures to keep the price of the car down back when it was first released.

The button only exists with the keyless start system.
The FRS did not have keyless entry (NOT pushing the button on the fob).
The FRS special editions that had keyless did have the button.
The early BRZ higher trim did have keyless and they had the button.
The base 86 does not have keyless entry so still did not have the button.
The later 86s in the higher trim did and they had the button.
The button needs the keyless entry/pushbutton start fob to always be transmitting to operate.

2014 BRZ manual shows the button.

Just so it doesn't happen again, they do make a button "cover" for the trunk / valet lock out.
