Yea, it is definitely smallish.

This was the main point that you were making that resonated with me. The kinds of cars I obsessed about in my 20's .. a lot of that I wouldn't want to be seen in today in my late 30's now that they are easily obtainable. The GRC screams Ken Block but I think I'll be OK to drive it in to work.

I'm no Dave Ramsey but as the years fly by I find myself unable to justify spending more than $35k on new cars despite being able to afford more. At that price point I can usually get whatever I need in a new car, enthusiast cars included. It's been a while and the market is different now but it still looks about right. If the GRC comes in where I expect (around 40 for a core with some options) I might break that rule a little. Will be hard to say no since I've got first dibs and it seems pretty special.

Customer: Actually we do!
BMW: Oh here’s the wagon you wanted
Customer: oh cool, can I get the bigger engine in it?
BMW: oh no the base engine will do for the wagon.
Customer: ok at least I can still get a RWD wagon in the American market.
BMW: actually all the US wagons are AWD, you don’t want RWD.
Customer: can I get a manual at least?
BMW: Why? No auto only on the wagon.
Customer: Ok I’ll pass then, I wanted the big engine with a manual in RWD.
BMW: See?! The Americans don’t want wagons!
Oh man they got you, too?! I was ready for an F31. I was gonna walk into the dealership and make it rain. And then... AT only. I wanted RWD too but AWD would have been OK. I was even OK with 4-cyl at the price point. Just the AT = heartbreak. I've been seeing a lot of E91 6-speeds come through Cars&Bids.. have to say there is temptation there. Just don't have an appetite for the problems that buying an aging, modern-ish BMW will invite.

You nailed it though with that last line. Wagon enthusiast is the worst type of enthusiast to be here for sure. Lots of close calls. Acura.. AT only. Buck Crosstour! What a stunner! AT only. Props to VW for carrying that torch so far. My TDI JSW will probably go down as my best vehicle of all time, aside from the serious engine issues it had. I think the 10 year ban on VAG products I applied is about expired but eh, nothing really there of interest now.

If Mercedes had sold the C63 in the US as a wagon, that's the one I would have right now.

I grew up in wagons. My parents went through 6 Volvo wagons before...Volvo decided to discontinue the V70 when they wanted another one. Now the only wagon Volvo offers that actually has decent cargo space is the V90, which is like $60k and has to be special ordered (if you don't want the "off road" version with it's stupid plastic cladding).

I had snatched up a VW Golf Sportswagen TDI when they were really cheap after dieselgate, but had to settle for one with DSG. Grew to (quickly) dislike the transmission and sold it 9 months later. Is my only personal wagon experience. Strangely enough, with the seats folded down it was about the same length (cargo area) as my Integra.

Here ya go. Wagon I used to have. MT, RWD, 6-cyl, loads of space. You just need to be prepared to have a slightly older car.

Would be more reliable than a 2011 BMW

Two of my first 3 cars were Falcon station wagons. I had a '62 white with red interior and a '64 light blue with white interior. Both manuals.

the white one was a two door, the blue a four door. These aren't mine, but basically the same cars. The white one was my car senior year in high school ($450) and the blue one was the car that went to college with me ($100 + traded in the white one).

The 2021 Subaru WRX STI started at $40,395 CAD (tops out at $47,895 CAD)

Have to believe the GR Corolla is going to be in that over 40K ballpark.
I'd hope its actually closer to the STI pricing (40K for the core, 45k for the circuit) rather than starting at over 46K like the other 2 (so 46k for the core, 50k for the circuit?)

im sure it will be someting like 55k for the circuit , we know here in Canada we are often screwed !

It is being reported that some dealerships in the NE region are asking $500 Deposit, refundable, but you're taking a $10,000 markup. With a wait time of roughly 6 months.

Toyota has been made aware of this, but since dealerships are privately owned, there's not anything that can be done.

Worth mentioning that some dealerships are guess-timating a MSRP of $31,000.

You know its bad when even carscoops.com doesn't believe the $31K MSRP rumor.

AMG C63 Estate looks nice. I also like E63 look as well. V8 biturbo sound sick! Just current Benz quality control sucks, so I'm staying far away from Benz.

Screw the mark-up. Try to get MSRP, which is possible. I know dealerships are trying to get as much $ as possible. Or simply wait, if you can do that. The few Yoda sales guys I've talked to has promised (yeah, IK) MSRP but I've decided to wait because I'm going to do a few things to my home.

I was behind a Sonic Red C-HR this morning in traffic and realized how much the GR Corolla looks like it from the back.

Those are weird cool looking little cars. If it had awd, I'd be down to have one as a winter beater!
