Damaged Clockspring?
So I replaced my steering wheel yesterday and after everything was done and I turned on the car the traction control and abs lights were on. I plugged in the OFT to see if I could get some codes out of it but nothing. From what I have been reading online Im pretty sure I damaged my clock spring. I have been driving around with it like that and their is no problem that I can see/feel. I'm going to get a new clockspring if I can't fix this one but that will take some time. Steering feels normal, horn honks, cruise control isn't responding tho.
Is it safe to drive with a damaged Clockspring? This is my DD and the parts will take a while to come in im sure |

Depends on the damage. It could short out and damage something or blow the airbag. Probably not likely but possible.

Maybe a pinched wire or loose connection? that'd make me nervous about the airbag.

Add me to the list of people with a concern for the airbag. My son's girlfriend had an airbag go off randomly while driving down the highway once. She managed to maintain control but I understand it wasn't fun. Turned out that it was a shorted wire in the steering column (possibly the clockspring but she wasn't sure).

You can always remove the airbag and still drive the car. I dunno. Different levels of bad safety. I'd want to pull it apart and see if something is pinched.

Yeah I took the clockspring apart to make sure the ribbon wire inside was intact and yup all good. Now I'm thinking I may just need the get my steering angle sensor calibrated.
