New Member Introduction

First off, thanks to the Admins & Mods who have created and manage this forum. It's their efforts that differentiate this site from the others and member participation is the barometer that measures success.

I've always been partial to sport coupes starting with a '73 Capri (4MT) through my last which was an '07 E92 (6MT) and probably my favorite one. I was semi-retired when I purchased it, did PCD in SC and expected to have many happy miles together. I was very active on E90Post.com. Alas, in '08 I went back to an office job and it became my DD, rowing the gears from light to light in a 6 mile commute. The last straw was in '13, when a few inches of snow gave me that uneasy feeling of lack of directional stability, so I purchased my current ride, '14 CX-5. Fast forward: within the next year, I plan on retiring for good and since I won't need a DD that must go in all weather conditions, the desire to get back into a sport coupe came into focus. Had my heart set on an MX-5 GT(6MT) but SWMBO is not coming around. All you married guys realize that Happy Wife=Happy Life so I don't need to explain further. There lies the reason that I have now focused my research on the 86. Seems to satisfy most of the check boxes. Been perusing this forum and there's a wealth of info. I still know how to use the function!

At this point, I have my sights on an 86 GT (6AT) in Oceanic Blue. I'll be chiming in from time to time to ask some questions that I can't find and offer some suggestions/knowledge that an >60yo enthusiast has accumulated over the years.

Stay safe out there and looking forward to a new chapter in my catalogue of "Cars That I've Owned".

All the best,
Steve

I'd like to SC at some point, but that will probably be a year off at least. In the meantime, is Open Flash Tablet with a tune for stock to help the 4k dip a good idea?

I have an OFT Stage 2+ since I'm running catless headers, but in short, it did take it out somewhat. It also took out that horrible cold start sound.

I'm pondering headers. Is it possible to do headers, catless or catted, and get a benefit while not making the car louder? I'm wanting to run as quiet as possible.

I'm also leaning toward FlexFuel since E85 is readily available here. That should be really nice to have in place if I decide to go FI later.

I'm running catless Skunk2 Alpha headers, Invidia OP, 1320 Performance FP, and the Invidia Q300 cat-back w/ the OFT Stage 2+. My car is pretty quiet unless I get on the throttle and then it lights up. I think that's due to the Q300 as it seems to have a wide range of tones. I also think the 1320 Performance FP with reasonator takes out a lot of the drone and some of the loudness, too.

I'm soon going to be running an SC and E85 Flex Fuel soon, so I'm really curious to see how it's going to sound, then.

It appears I never posted here when I joined 3 years ago. I've had a dark blue 2015 frs since 2016. Bought it with 10K miles and it's up to 29K now. Pretty happy with it so far.

howdy y'all, i wanted to ask a crazy question, i'm brand new to cars and have NO idea what i can toss into my Automatic GT86 without blowing it up.

is it OK to install a turbo charger into an Automatic car? what are the dangers of doing so and are there problems i may run into if i go into "manual mode" while driving?

The answer is yes it's OK, and the dangers all depend on the quality of the product used and the installation. It is not any different really than adding it to a manual, and in fact some might argue the AT can handle the additional power better than the MT in this car.
