i'm most interested in the details. i'm scouring flight forums to find what i can.

@p1l0t @Dadhawk @NoHaveMSG

iirc, ya'll have something to do with things that fly, though nothing to do with things that beat the air into submission.

to me it looks like it was a very rapid decent, sounds almost like a loss of power to the tail rotor... it would at least explain the significant decent speed 'lajim' references-- i would expect a softer landing if the pilot could have autorotated it at least close to the ground..

the flightaware flight path looks problematic, even for a helicopter to me.

I’m still shocked too. Even more tragic that one of his daughters was with him.

most tragic is that there's 7 other people killed in exactly the same incident that don't matter enough to even be a footnote in the accident reporting yet.

So I have some insider access being in aviation circles. Good news is I'll get you shit maybe you don't even want hear. Bad news is it does take a little time for all the facts to roll in. All I know so far is it was a total loss. It was probably foggy at the time. Could be a cause or a factor or neither I'll keep you guys updated.

the faa report typically takes what, 6-12 months most times, so just about anything is fast on that timeline!

Off topic, possibly not the right time.

I think the expression "RIP" or "R.I.P." is dreadfully antiquated.
They aren't resting. They are gone. It is not a case of "Keep the noise down, daddy's trying to rest in peace the next room".

I may get something earlier, but it's going to take a bit if you want it to be reliable. Regardless I'll need for them to collect some facts. There's a prelim in like 2 weeks though and I can probably get the low down from what might make the final report.

No more "important." He was an icon of US basketball, so people knew who he was. He had as many people that hated him, as liked him.

The only details I've seen that make me cringe is that they were flying in weather where the local police choppers had all been grounded due to weather. Sounds like they may have gotten bitten by "get there-itis" to some extent.

So, at least initially, it appears to be a case of "pilot flying into unacceptable conditions".

Regardless, it is tragic no matter the vehicle that resulted in the loss of life, or who's life it was that was lost. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of their families.
