While would be cool. I don't see many people buying a SS cruz over a ATS.

Maybe but the ATS is 3315Lbs minimum weight. The Cruze SS was targeted at sub 3100Lbs due to less luxury items. Plus it would be considerably cheaper. The AWD version could give the WRX a run for its money. I rented Corolla Ss on two vacations in the last year. When it came time to buy the wife a car I got her a Cruze. Much nicer than the Corolla. It is a great basic transportation and road trip car. Very solid and great quality. I would be very tempted to get a SS if they built the thing.

How's that possible? The regular Cruze already weighs more than that.

Curb weight of 2014 Cruze manual is 3084 lbs. There are no specific details on what weight savings measures they would take to offset the AWD. For the estimated base price of around $30K there should be some lightweight material to replace standard stuff. The concept was shown in 2012 as a 2014 model. It is not here yet and may never be but if they build it I would be one of the first in line to test drive one.

Even if we don't get the Type-R here, this might be a good engine for people looking to use Honda engines for swaps where they might add a turbo anyway. It'd be something I'd look into after my F22c gets worn out.

Honda has repeatedly stated they are devoted to FWD cars. And neckbeard, pony loving, euphoric athiests can't drive standard.

Yes, California has tough emissions laws, but they're not the only place in the world that is strict.
There are two different emissions programs in the US; CARB and Federal emissions. States can choose to follow either one. There are about 10 states that require the stricter CARB emissions for new vehicles. The rest follow Federal emission standards. US fuel economy standards are incredibly lax. The late RX-8 wasn't considered a gas guzzler despite being considered one by most people but the new Challenger SRT8 is a gaz guzzler.

At least we get the hatchback. Damn CAFE favoring vehicles with large interior volume. I look at the new Mazda3 hatch with mixed feelings. I liked the old Nagare style but I absolutely love the Skyactiv engines.

I almost bought a new Mazda3 hatch when I got back from my deployment. I had been talking with the dealer while deployed, looking at pictures, reading reviews, it looked great.

When I got back and actually walked around the car the front looked wonderful. The back has no personality at all; it's just vague and amorphous. I was expecting a lot more, especially after the previous design had such a defined back end.

I ended up with a BRZ.

Listen @WolfpackS2k.

No one said that states didn't have the same emission requirements. The post I made was that each state had its own Laws and regulations when it comes to emissions. Which they do.

Yes... states vary when it comes to inspection time. Gues what, Many states have the same inspection process!

And yes. They do not have anything to do with the manufacturing process. BUT manufacturers consider those laws and regulations when designing the product.

I like feeding trolls on occasion, so here yah go.

Have to remove the front wheels to get bikes in = no hatch for me, silly requirement but it isn't going to be my vehicle. This isn't the place for me to bitch about lack of wagon options in this country. Hoping when I get my shit together I've got better options than VW or BMW but even though Mazda is doing better than it's ever done it seems like they aren't meeting the targets they need.

New tarbo Honda engine with high output is only good things for enthusiasts, no it's not revolutionary but it's a step forward for Honda which has been pretty stagnant for the last decade, no it may not directly lead to a true enthusiast car but fat healthy companies are the ones that put out the cool stuff.

Edit: Hot hatch market is on fire, even more so if you don't need the hot version. Mazda 2/3, Ford Focus/Fiesta, Abarth, GTI/Golf, Veloster, Mini, TC, Impreza/WRX('14) and I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two worth mentioning (Fit/Versa/Yaris). Maybe Honda can seriously jump back into this market with this engine.
