CD009 350Z Transmission into FT86 Swap

I know of one person that has done this but I can't squeeze much info out of him because a local shop did all the work for him.

Has anyone else done this swap? The CD009 is a great transmission and should be a low cost alternative to the much more outrageously priced swaps out there.

Direct anyone you know that has done the swap to this thread for info sharing please. If I get enough info to make the swap, I may have some PNP kits produced at a fair price (depending on how easy the swap is, won't do it if it's a big pita).

Thanks!

This would solve the fact our Trans is glass. Awesome Trans at low prices.

I'm interested to see what others have to say about this.

Didn't you know? The engine is no good, the transmission is cheap junk, the suspension sucks, the interior is garbage, the tires are off of a Prius, the paint is to thin, that lights are all out of date and over all the whole car is just horrible. Every single thing needs to be swapped out to make the car even passible. They should have only been charging $15k for it since it isn't all the same as the parts from a $200k super car. The engineers that designed it and decided what was the best for it should all be fired since all the people on here are far better at deciding what it should have.

Well, since you asked ......

My personal experience (spirited driving in the mountains) is that the MT in my FR-S works just fine.

I have a suspicion that most people that have had trouble with this transmission, fall into one of these three categories:

* they are new to a MT and just don't know what to expect

* they are new to shifting a MT and screwed it up learning

* they tried to turn the FR-S into a track beast and slammed the transmission around like it was in a race prepped car

Until you break the OEM tranny, I really wouldn't worry about "solving" a non-existent problem.

Once you start making bigger power. I should have clarified but I assumed no one would be swapping in a z Trans with plans pk keeping a stock motor or just bolt ons. The z Trans have been known to handle huge power and they made adapter plate to mate them to 2jz and ls motor and a lot of guys are using them as alternatives to the v160.

Cd009 Trans was in 05+ 350z's not including HR models if I'm not mistaken. The cd009 is basically the same Trans as the earlier model 350z but with beefed up parts. Guys are putting pretty big power through cd009 with lots of abuse.

Thanks for that info. I had first year 350z and I was hit with every recall they had on it. Worst was driver side window motor going out every week and fuel tank issue.

CD009s, if I recall correctly, are pretty massive. A lot of the Supra guys talk about running them, but they say it takes too much trans tunnel work to get them to fit. If that holds true, then fitting one in an 86 trans tunnel could prove difficult. It could just be the bellhousing though, so some custom work could easily take care of that.

This isn't a direct contact but if you run out of leads, I remember reading that Mackin Industries did a Z33 swap (350Z tranny) for their hill climb twin.
Feature of their car: http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/09/...tack-the-peak/
I do realize though that it's not a road car build and might not help you too much. They go way too for to make it bullet proof if it was a roadcar.

That transmission requires ALOT of trans tunnel modification and not worth it. There's a place that does gearset for the stock trans case that's a very strong. But if your not trying to make over 350 hp the stock one is fine maybe get a 3.9 final drive
