Got my first tuning file back from Shiv at OFT last evening and mapped it into the ignition today. Basically, he took the E-85 Stage 2 tune for CAI and aftermarket headers and leaned it out a bit. (I have the CAI and a snorkel, but also the stock header; aftermarket ones typically run leaner. Ergo, I was running a bit rich.) He also fiddled with the advance curve at the highest RPM's.
Obviously the big change was the A/F mixture being optimised. I would classify it as a definitely noticeable if not earth-shattering increase in both power and torque in the "midrange" of the gears. The torque dip did not seem to be so bad. This is only the first iteration. He wants another data file and will continue to tweak it some more based on that new information. Haven't had a chance to run it flat out yet, due to the traffic. I may go out to the toll road later and have a run at max accel and see what the top is like now. BTW, the idle is now spectacular. It's pretty warm today, so I won't know for a while if the cold start situation is improved, since this is Texas and it's late May and it isn't going to get cool again for a while!

Well, no ....... hint:
To use the timing light on an MG, one would snake the wires down in the engine compartment so the light was under the car so as you could shoot up at the timing mark on the pulley that is attached to the crankshaft. Now, what on earth could be dragging to make all that racket during my test drive .. ?? OF course, I did my best tune-ups after a couple of bloody Marys ....... humfrz |
