One of the articles claimed the marketing VP said "no never going to do that" at one of the release events.
Don't remember which site it was on but with their normal accuracy what that could actually mean is the drop top will show up anyway now!

I could almost live with that. Apparently at least part of what my eye sees wrong with the flow is the conflict between the roofline and the other angles. Take those out of the equation and at least I don't get nauseous looking at it.

too bad, some of the older guys i talked with and housewives may have been interested. but i dont blame them. they would probably have just sold a hand full and end up getting axed like the 370z convertible.

But... And.... HOLY SHIT Cartel Customs could see the future back in 2014! If the new BRZ had those subdued vents and intakes I would be all over it! Same exact concept not taken way over the top.

Affordable sports coupes are already a niche and an endangered species, and the convertible versions are even more niche than the hard top. I can understand why Toyota and Subaru don't bother.

If Toyota had made the 1st gen with a convertible option there would be one in our drive. The SO really has a thing for a drop tops. At the time we looked at a brand new FR-S and a low milage pre-owned Z4. The asking price on both were roughly the same.
If it were up to me I would have gone with the FR-S. It was just more practical with the backseats, lower parts and labor cost, and so on. Plus, I never have been a big fan of soft tops. |

See. Now that the car is chunked up a bit in the rear I don't object to the font fenders so much. It works with the flow instead of fighting it.

I'd love a BRZ/86 shooting brake. All the fun of a low, light weight RWD sportscar, but with more practicality for carrying stuff in the back. I don't know why the SB/breadvan design isn't more popular for sports cars. I think the Ferrari FF is one of the best looking modern Ferraris though, so my judgement may not match the average person's.

The reason it's not popular is because you take a great looking low slung coupe shape and turn it into a shoe like atrocity.
