I have 2 cecha01 ps3 sitting dead from the same GPU issue that my 2 360's(xenon /zephyr) have. I have a jasper and a trinity and a corona and they are all fine.

So, you have 2 dead first gen PS3's, and a 1st and 2nd gen 360 that died... and had to wait for the 5th and above gen to get working Xboxes...

there only two gen of 360... there are multiple revisions of the system though... the ps3's died long before my Jtagged Xenon and Zephyr (6 yrs) did... i got the other systems just for the fuck of it..

Hard drives are the component most prone to failure in a computer because they contain moving parts. Expect them to eventually die. This is why it's important to always have backups. If yours dies prematurely, it sucks, but that's what a warranty is for. And if you just want to eliminate moving parts (besides fans) SSDs are coming down in storage:$ now, so you can always get a 256GB drive for 150ish if you keep your eyes open.

WD had a stream of bad hard drives in the mid 2000s (owned two, both died within months of purchase) and have since corrected the issue, but they were covered under warranty. Seagate drives have sucked on and off for a while now. When Microsoft launched their 120GB drive upgrade for the 360, you know what that was? A 50-60 dollar WD BEVS 5400 RPM 2.5" hdd in the most expensive plastic enclosure ever. I know, I hacked one for my system because I wasn't paying their idiotic 200 dollar price.

But I have to call bullshit on your "not getting reliable parts" for 800 bucks. I have built a ton of machines, and I certainly can build high quality inexpensive ones. My earlier sub-600 build was all name brand hardware, and I'll gladly break it down if you request. Maybe not the case, but switch Rosewill for Antec and there you go. It's not all enthusiast grade, but most people aren't going to know the difference between the components, nor even be able to take advantage of those things that make the boards so much more expensive. Nor are they willing to fork out the extra money. To be completely honest, the only hardware I've ever actually had fail on me (and I've had my fair share) was enthusiast grade stuff with the exception of one basic PSU (which fried an entire system sans CPU) and the previously mentioned HDDs.

They intro'd a new generation 360 at E3. I thought they said they were available immediately, but I have yet to see one at the store. Personally I like the gen 2's aesthetics the best.
