As an update to all our Jackson Racing Supercharger customers. We are now implementing LSPI adjustments in all our tunes since November 2019, which includes version 28.00 and higher.

A short education post on what we have been spending a LOT of time on (within our tunes) over the better part of the last year in order to remove LSPI issues. We worked with other professional tuners, motor oil companies, and even vehicle manufacturers to understand what the issues are and how to best mitigate this issue while maintaining power and response even on 91 octane fuels.

You may ask what is LSPI. Low Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI)

This trait is inherent on high compression, forced induction, direct injected engines, such as the BRZ (with forced induction) and 2015+ WRX, that can cause the combustion to pre-ignite at low RPM's and high loads.

Here is a good article on what the issues are and what we are trying address in tune, along with other physical changes.

https://www.motor.com/magazine-summa...-pre-ignition/

We have found a few key items within the tune to mitigate this issue while trying to offering safety, drivability and power for daily commuters.

Some other things to watch are the oil that you are using in your engine. Cars that are prone to LSPI, please make sure you are using an oil that is SN PLUS rated.

Make sure to speak to your tuner about LSPI and how to best mitigate these issues through the type of oil you use, adjustments within the tune and even the brand of fuel you use.

Regards,
William Knose

SWEET. After many years I’m finally within spitting distance of getting the JR kit, JR dual radiator, and Delicious tune. This news makes me happy in was only car guys can appreciate. I use my 86 for both street and track duty so daily OEM-level livability and track reliability are paramount. THANK YOU for not only continuing to support this platform but continuing to improve quality.

Recirc valve upgrade?

Has anyone replaced their recirc valve?

If so, what did you go with?

Looking to possibly replace it with a Mach 2 unit from GoFastBits.

Hello! Does this mean JRSC cars tuned by DT pre-Nov2019 will need to be retuned again for LSPI since it was not accounted for before then?

We did some LSPI back then but and easy way to tell is to look at your version number of the tune. If you are prior to 28.xx then you do not have the necessary LSPI updates needed in the tune.

The dual rad doesn't have enough cooling capacity for track work from my experience. I'm in the process of replacing it with a standalone oil cooler atm. But if you're really set on it, you can buy my dual

Any recommendations in recirc/bypass valves?

I used a cheap RKX, it works okay. Others used Turbosmart which is more expensive. JR recommends using the softest springs to ensure Rotrex unit is protected from surge. You need 25mm inlet and outlet size if I remember correctly. If you search the thread you can find more information.

Just curious; if replacing the recirc valve (with softest spring available), would a retune be needed? or recomended? thx!

Recirc valve replacement does not need retune.

@wheelhaus

I always recommend the standalone cooler for track work.

Also, Zach, is no longer at Delicious.
