Post Turbocharged FA20 targeted for 270hp. Confirmed for next gen WRX

In some FA20 related news, according to Motor Trend, Subaru of America has just confirmed that the next generation Subaru WRX will receive a turbocharged version of the FA20 engine (from the BRZ, FR-S, GT86).

The turbo FA20 2.0L flat four motor will have a targeted output of 270 horsepowers.

For comparison, the current WRX engine is a 2.5L 265hp engine.

Mounts would line up, but may require a bit of work/rerouting to fit.. depends on how everything is fitted.

It will be interesting to learn what kind of internal changes they made. Lower-compression pistons for example. Time will tell.

A 270 hp turbo BRZ sounds godly.

I don't think this engine will be in the BRZ. I think the BRZ STI will more focus on even more weight reduction rather that alot more power thanks to turbocharging.

Assuming that the EJ25 and this new motor are both swappable, with similar difficulty, into the BRZ, why would anyone choose the smaller displacement motor? Is DI that advantageous?

I suppose if this is true then it confirms that turbo is possible?

Doesn't mean it'll be easy or cheap though, I guess...

That's exactly what I thought when I read the article this morning. The reading was followed by loud expletives that my boss didn't appreciate.

We don't drift/race down twisty mountainous roads like the Japanese or Europeans where less weight and dynamic suspension are required. Like how there are always split markets to satisfy different sides of the globe, Turbo in North America and maybe Non-turbo everywhere else in the world. I highly doubt that, US always get the end of the stick, if turbo here in US, turbo will be everywhere. Like how European always get all the models thar are desired here like the A3 hatch, VW Sirocco, and all Type-Rs.
Not just for the bolded but for the entire post. It aggravates me how even our domestic brands held out on us until recently.
