That's a bit of a surprise. Most of the ones I know don't use any oil despite being filled with "greasy water" (0W20).

Mine always reads about 1/4in above the high mark.

Huh, not mine ... yet anyways. How many miles and what oil and what frequency did you change your oil?

Funny
Mine doesn't use any either. And I did a HARD break-in over 200,000 miles ago. I drove it like I stole it the first day I got it.
But now I take it easier.

OK, my FA24 *is* using more oil than my FA20 did. I added ~1/4 of a quart at the track the other day to get back up to ~1/2-qt overfill, after 5000 street miles and 5 track days. The horror!

First oil change at ~1,200 miles, second at ~1,700, sold the car at 1,980 miles, because it was burning through oil like a junker and the car was falling apart. The car was a 2022 GR86 MT from the first batch made for the U.S. I bought it in January 2022. I babied that car and never abused it; I followed the recommended break-in procedure and never went above 4,000 miles until after its first oil change. After the first oil change, I never drove it over 5,000 RPM. I figured I got a lemon, but now, with all of the reports of these things failing on the track and on the street, I'm thinking there are more lemons among 2nd gens than not.

Thanks for the details.

How much oil did it burn through? That seems like an outlier.

About 1 qt. every 400 miles. I never ran anything other than the dealership's 0w20 garbage, since that's all they were willing to put in it. I would have put AMSOil 5w30 if I would have kept it, but I wanted to use my "three free oil changes." I ultimately lost interest in the car shortly after my second oil change and dumped the car altogether.

Very strange. Your oil usage rate is alarming, couldn't get it "lemon-lawed"? I'm at ~7500 miles on my '23, no issues, no rattles, nothing "falling apart", despite being on much stiffer-than-stock 7k/9k coilovers for past 5000 miles. Using oil at a rate of about 1/4-quart every ~5k miles plus 5 track days (my dealer had no qualms giving me 5w30 btw). My old '17 used near-enough *zero* oil over similar intervals, and didn't have any rattles, wasn't "falling apart" at 75k miles with ~30 track days on it. I've driven a few friends FR-S, BRZs, 86s over the years and all seemed pretty solid. Agree that engine issues are worrying, but outside of that these to me seem like well put-together cars for the most part.

I don't believe a single word of this.

If you burned a quart every 400 miles, then it must have smoked like a vape.
There's no way you could drive 5 miles wthout getting pulled over and having your car impounded. Even if it leaked that much oil you would leave a trail behind you. So in your rear view mirror, you would either see nothing but smoke or the carnage of everyone behind you spinning off the road.
