The car was a 2022 GR86 MT from the first batch made for the U.S. I bought it in January 2022. I babied that car and never abused it; I followed the recommended break-in procedure and never went above 4,000 miles until after its first oil change. After the first oil change, I never drove it over 5,000 RPM. I figured I got a lemon, but now, with all of the reports of these things failing on the track and on the street, I'm thinking there are more lemons among 2nd gens than not.
"My car had a COMPLETELY different problem than the other cars I'm referencing, and furthermore a problem that literally no one else on the Known Internet has reported. Given the dozen or so failures unrelated to my problem that have happened among tens of thousands of perfectly-running cars, I can safely conclude there are more bad cars than good cars."

EDIT: the reason this doesn't even remotely pass the sniff test - Your car is under warranty. Why in the name of Zeus' bunghole would you not have taken it into the dealership if it was running this badly? Could it be that you're either A: grossly overstating the problem or B: perfectly aware that there was something you did that would have voided the warranty so outrageously they would have laughed you out of the service center? If you had taken it in because of it burning so much oil that would undoubtedly have been included in your story. So no, this doesn't come within a hundred miles of being believable.

Using oil at a rate of about 1/4-quart every ~5k miles plus 5 track days (my dealer had no qualms giving me 5w30 btw). My old '17 used near-enough *zero* oil over similar intervals, and didn't have any rattles, wasn't "falling apart" at 75k miles with ~30 track days on it. I've driven a few friends FR-S, BRZs, 86s over the years and all seemed pretty solid. Agree that engine issues are worrying, but outside of that these to me seem like well put-together cars for the most part.
I told the dealership that it was burning excessive amounts of oil for a stock car, but they said it would slow down after the break-in period. After the break-in period, it barely slowed down, so I listed it for sale. I kept topping it off weekly, until someone offered to buy it for $7,500 more than I paid for it new, so I dumped it at 1,980 miles.
It never leaked a drop of oil that I could find and the only modification I did was $2,500 in PPF, which obviously didn't contribute to the problem.
I never saw any blue smoke coming from the exhaust, but I know it was blowing through the motor, because there were no oil leaks in my garage, ever.
I had a 2004 STi before the GR86, which was modified and tuned to 400whp and that thing would go through all of its oil capacity within 300 miles when I ran Mobil 1 5w30. I took the STi to Surgeline Tuning and they said Mobil 1 doesn't stay in the boosted EJ engines well, so they recommended AMSOil 5w30. The AMSOil was great and the car never burned any measurable amount after that.
If I had kept the GR86, I would have put AMSOil 5w30 in it after I got through my three free oil changes at the dealership. I'm sure the car would have stabilized with good oil, as the dealership's 0w20 oil is complete trash. The FA24 is likely similar to the EJ25 in the sense that it needs top-tier oil in order to not rapidly burn through it.

Lol. Didn't know AMSOIL is such a miracle oil. Went from burning 5 quarts of oil in 300 miles to no measurable amount with an oil brand change...

Sounds like he's just here to advertise AMSOIL very subtly. Everyone go buy AMSOIL, it's the solution to Subaru.

After seeing the recent post history, definitely an ID-10-T.

Interesting! I went the opposite way. I think it's because I find the thought of sincerity in those posts too disturbing to accept.
