Scammers Are Out There

I recently advertised on WTB for an adjustable wing for my 2022 GR86 Premium w/ducktail. I got 4 replies from 4 different people. They all referred me to other people who would have one. RED FLAG 1. All four were very recent joiners to the Forum such as the date of my post or the day after. RED FLAG 2. Two of the replies were identical referring to a co-worker. RED FLAG 3. Needless to say I’m ignoring all of them. I’m willing to bet that if I asked them for pictures I’d find the photos on GOOGLE Image.

You forgot one detail: they all include some or all of your product description in their response - verbatim.

So for example, if you advertise "WTB adjustable wing for my 2022 GR86 Premium w/ducktail" their response will refer to the part they have as "adjustable wing for 2022 GR86 Premium w/ducktail".

One of those things that should stick out to people - anything that allows them to automate their responses (like copy-pasting your threat title with a basic editor to remove/change certain words) allows them to cast a much wider scamming net.

These scumbags don't have a high success rate. They don't care. It doesn't matter if you only get money from 1% of the stuff you send out if you send out thousands of things using an automated script.

They'd have a better success rate if they hand-crafted everything, but they'd spend so much time doing that they'd actually make less money overall. It's a numbers game - look for evidence of automation.
