Knocking noise when releasing clutch

Hey guys, this is on a 2017 86 with only 500 miles on her. I can clearly hear a knocking noise when I release the clutch, especially when Im at a stop. Is this something normal, maybe I just need to break in the car more? Im coming from Hondas, and Im familiar with squeaky clutches, but never this kinda noise.

So, does it make the noise when the clutch is:

* released when not in gear?

* released when the engine is running or not or both?

Can you isolate where the sound is coming from (in the wheel well or from the clutch housing)?

You might have the dealer give a listen since it's under warranty.

These cars make some strange sounds ...... maybe it's just one of those.

The noise is most noticeable in neutral. In gear, its hard to tell over the engine noise. I can definitely feel a slight click when pressing down, and again, when releasing. When the car is on, the noise becomes more of a knocking noise, and when its off, its quieter. Its definitely louder when the engine is running. I can hear it outside the car too.

Didnt expect to go to the dealer so soon, but definitely making an appointment.

hmmm ....... if your car was older, I would say that it might be the clutch fork squeaking at you.

I'm going to wake up our resident clutch expert @Ultramaroon for an opinion.

Meanwhile, it wouldn't hurt to have the dealership check it out ...... although, they will most likely tell you it's "normal".

I have my suspicions but, without a sound clip, I'd be completely guessing.

Sometimes the pedal cluster clicks. That can be annoying but harmless. There's some backlash in the driveline. That may also contribute, depending on the conditions.

well, like humfrz predicted, dealer said it was normal. They did let me try out a new 86 on their lot and it did have the same slight clicking noise. I guess the clutch on these emit noise. As long as it doesnt get worse, Im just gonna drive the car.

All clutches make noise, it's whether or not the car has enough insulation to mask the noise or not, this car has as little sound insulation as possible, the penalty you pay for having one of the lightest RWD cars on the market right now.

Maybe. I can only attest to the cars Ive owned which were all Hondas.

My S2000 and DC2 Type-R and even my civic never made a noise. But if some clicking noises are normal for these cars, Im fine.

I've seen this posted somewhere. The Clunk when putting it in 1st from neutral is normal. It's the input shaft. To avoid this just press and hold the clutch pedal 1 full Mississipi second before putting it in 1st.
