I had the chance yesterday to drive a good bit of highway, and you're right the dash MPG does tend to exaggerate MPG by about 2 on the optimistic side. I fill up the tank and drive and then refill and divide miles/gallons. On first stint, I was driving like a granny at around 70 MPH crossing 100 miles, and got 34.7, the odometer was being optimistic at 36.9! second stint I was driving regularly crossing 200 miles (80 MPH often short stints of WOT for fun hitting speeds best not mentioned then costing down) and I got 29.1 MPG. I really doubt anyone drives normally like I do so I would expect the read MPG of a BRZ to be around 33 to 34 MPG instead of the suggested 29. BRZ is really fuel efficient to be honest. I think it's because it makes good on drag (unlike SUVs) I don't know. |

Ferrari has create tech, but they sold less that 10,000 cars across all models in 2018. Chevy sells 3 times that many Corvettes alone, then look at the Caddy and Camaro sells. Pretty easy to be cheaper. Going mid-engine added marginal cost to the production run of the car.

I'm really curious what's going to be the longer-term effect of Corvette C8 on the used car market, especially when the first used C8s start to go on sale.
There's a bunch of nice cars in the $40–80k price range, which includes Porsches, Lotuses, and even some Gallardos. |

My best MPG in my manual BRZ was something like 32 MPG on cruise control on a multi-hour flat straight highway trip. For comparison, my '16 Mazda 6 (which is a much bigger and heavier car, and comparable power output) easily makes 40 MPG under same conditions. |

What I was trying to say is that this 29 MPG quote is not what I'm getting in real life. Compare this to the 2016 Mazda CX-5 AWD that I have that's claimed for 30 MPG highway and that is an accurate depiction of what I'm getting with that car. It's nice to know the Mazda 6 can pull 40 MPG never knew that. I thought that was exclusive Honda territory. |

Ferrari artificially limits production to 10,000 to bypass the most stringent CAFE requirements in their biggest market, the U.S., in effect for now. |

Understood, but that means they have less volume to spread R&D over with a new model.

Those graph don't seem to filter out older model years? Also, median MPG of 28 for BRZ sounds unrealistic. Although perhaps this includes BRZs with automatic gearboxes? My BRZ has a manual gearbox. |

Not sure how going public impacts the cost of R&D/Unit, unless you are saying they will produce more vehicles at that time.
