Isnt that the cold hard truth haha. Mostly the kids part, though.

All Toyota needs is the 'Supra' badge and brag about a 2jz successor and they'll have a hit regardless. Price really won't be all that much of a factor so long as it is similar compared to competitors in it's given price range.

But after looking at them together. Hell no. Completely different. I still think they need to give the FT-1 a mouth and get rid of that big ass nose.

Other than that, I agree with the other person that said their probably going to drop a BMW inline 6 into this car and turbo charge it. Let's be honest, anything else just wouldn't be a Supra.

Last, I think the sub car below the 86 twins is going to more based on the MR-2. Those cars were tiny yet sexy plus rear wheel drive. As an 86 owner I gotta admit, it'll be nice to bully a lil brother car that isn't a tC or one of the other ugly ass scions.
I see more of this going on, actually:

Almost like an F1 car hatching from an egg I guess? All rounded and squished and what not.

I see a lot of RX8 in the front as well. Like a cross between an Enzo and an RX8 with the roofline of a GTR.

Well, Toyota are trying to get the younger people to drive their cars. Most young people don't have GTR money to spend unless they are the arabs living in LA driving daddy's Gold Plated Rolls.. (A GTR costs about 160 here new too so i would predict...70k)

It's true they don't, but those young people will talk about the car and lust after it. It solidifies the brand in their minds.

This is how I see things playing out. Nothing really overlaps this way.

Sub 86 car: $20k+
86/FRS: $25k-$30k
BMW/Toyota(Lexus): $40k range
RC350: $45k
FT-1/Supra: $50k-$60k
RC-F: $70k
LC: $100k+

The problem is the current Z4 has a base price of $49k usd and motor trend is reporting the next joint venture Toyota/BMW version will use a lot of carbon fibre and aluminium to save weight:

“This car will use the same lightweight body construction as the i3 and i8,” a source says. That means lots of carbon fiber and aluminium in a car which will incorporate basic body and chassis design by BMW.

“And even with that type of construction, you can expect a sticker price around the same as that of the current Z4. No more than $70,000,” adds our source

So price wise the Toyota/BMW project car will overlap the FT-1 if all of the insider source quotes are true. The differentiating aspect will be that the Toybimmer will use some type of hybrid assist and the FT-1 will use traditional turbo i6:

"With the design and construction of the body apparently being done by BMW, what is Toyota bringing to the party? One guess: its next generation plug-in hybrid technology. An advanced interpretation of the current Toyota Hybrid System II, the new version will incorporate a capacitor."

At this point it's all rumors and speculation though so who knows

that's where the FRS comes in. the Supra will be for the I've-been-in-my-career-for-a-couple-decades type buyer i'd assume

+1, just rumors at this point.

But I'm glad you posted that. It made me rethink things

For $70k I hoping to see something like a Mercedes SL fighter rather than a new Z4 type of car. BMW and Lexus are both missing a large two seater roadster.

Lexus no longer makes the SC430, and the last gen wasn't a huge success. Would make sense to split the cost with BMW.

OR...

Since it is a hybrid, maybe a NSX II hybrid competitor? Audi is also working on a etron version of its R8. I would think BMW would like to bring a successor to the late 70s/early 80s M1 supercar onto market.

This would also explain why Toyota was testing those hybrid MR-2s.

I mean if Toyota wanted to compete with cars like the Z4, SLK, and ect. You would think they would just offered a reskin FR-S with a new leather interior. And maybe that new 2.0t for $40k and undercut both BMW and Mercedes.

I am now thinking this BMW/Toyota car maybe bigger than a Z4 type car. It's always fun to guess and speculated.

I mean worst case scenario if the new FT-1 is GTR price range, we can all get a MKIV Supra since the current supra owners are probably going to be trading/Selling theirs, spend maybe $5-10k on it and have a GTR/Z4/FT-1 killer. You'd still save $30k

PS
Thanks vh_supra26 for that post. I would have never noticed the FT-1 looks so much like the Toyota 2000GT

A member on SupraForums was told at New York too expect a starting price in the $40kish price range for a base model. The flagship or high performance model will be priced under the $70k Lexus RC-F.

Same here, I could see Toyota making a base V6 hybrid model (like FT-HS) for around $45k-$50k.

Than have the V6 TT (drivetrain from next gen IS-F) start at $55k-$60k. That would be below the $70k RC-F.
