Actually bro, I think it'll be the top tier based on what Toyota has said (http://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/9029...all-sports-car). LF-LC seems to be a pie-in-the-sky alternative energy concept that started back in the days of the FT-HS. And just like how the 86 manifested cues from the FT-HS, cues from the LF-LC are being manifested through the RC-F.

The Japanese car maker has already begun development of a revived Supra to sit above the affordable two door, and is now turning its attention to fulfilling the three-tiered lineup it promised by drawing the framework for a lightweight sub $20k rear driver.

The chief engineer for the 86, Tetsuya Tada, confirmed Toyota has commenced early development work on the baby sportscar, but would not divulge too many details as he is not overseeing the project.

"We have started on the car below the 86," he told Fairfax Media while in Australia to celebrate the car's first anniversary.

"It is not yet decided if it will be two-seat or two-plus-two; we are developing the concept now."

But he did ensure the car will share the same fun-to-drive DNA as the 86 and won't be compromised by being based on an existing small car platform such as the Yaris or Corolla.

"Rear wheel drive is the best solution for sportscar handling so this will be true for all three Toyota sportscars," Tada added.
My gut sense says this car will be priced between the Corvette and GT-R. Hopefully closer to Vette or even below. But in past interviews Tada-san did brag about it having a technology feature to "wow" the world. Might be more liberal on the tech with not as much cost cutting as the twins. Though leveraging from the BMW/Toyota development collab could save on cost.

Part of me hopes they don't release the FT-1 with a manual transmission option so I can stay content with my BRZ and stick with my original plan to get a used FR-S track toy on the side. But the other part of me hopes it will have a manual transmission. In which case I'll have to plan for this car and still enjoy my BRZ as a daily.

I haven't even read this thread but are you guys seriously comparing a car that actually exists and a car that doesn't? Welp first off, the FRS is faster than the FT-1 (it has no engine). FRS wins! Woo! haha

They seem to have stanced this car with some stretch and poke like the FR-S Concept.

I wonder if this will be the car that's being co-developed with BMW? It may have all Toyota materials and interior but something tells me they'll keep to the tradition of an inline-6 turbo and rip the new m3/m4 engine that has one producing 425+hp...

Definitely won't be 40k or less. Christ, the last Supra was barely below $50k. Oh and inflation, don't forget that tidbit.

I don't think it's going to be anywhere near 50K. It'll probably end up in the $60-$70K price range. One thing for sure, it won't look anything like that concept lol

I agree with you, I don't think it'll be that price either. But if it is, GOOD BYE 86.

Would think they wouldn't be able to charge as much as the Corvette though. Even with similar power numbers.
All of the GTR's were marked up 15K-25K back in '09 when I put a deposit on one. I understand that you have to make a living but majority of the car salesman I've talked didn't really know what they were talking about.

In my recent trip to a Toyota dealership when the FR-S came out, I visited 3 dealerships here in the San Diego area; Frank Toyota, Kearny Mesa Toyota and Toyota Carlsbad. None of these guys knew what the heck they were trying to sell. Didn't know the story about the Subaru/Toyota partnership, the engine specs etc. All they could tell me was what color and transmission were coming in, what kind of financing they currently offered and if I wanted to put a deposit down.

When I bought my Tacoma at Carson Toyota in Long Beach, the fleet manager knew what she was talking about. I was pretty impressed and even hooked it up near invoice.

Man, I was hoping they wouldn't do the storm trooper TES concept. A 2+2 Corolla GTS, or Yaris RWD would be awesome.

Exactly, I remember the time people was raving about FT86 will be sub 20k....many people was wishing...and it came out 25k. That is 25% more than anticipated.

Say the something for the Supra...anticipated 50k...with 25%....we are looking at 65k.

But as reality hit, Toyota have to ve the market share from those kids 15 years ago....like me. I was dreaming of Corvette, Viper, or Supra.

Too bad, the only thing that keeps the same price is the Corvette, Supra lost the battle, disappeared. Now they want to stir the market up again ? Either be

1/ all unaffordable, unrealistic price such as Viper, GTR....the 120k club

2/ affordable....50k club, but standing toes to toes with Corvette.

So this battle will be very interesting, but so far, New Mustang V8 450hp....for 35k ? HELL YES....Toyota ....it is your move.

If you release new Supra 400hp, 3000lbs, 50k.....you will earn back the market. Otherwise, you will be down the same road.
