Hah we should all drive E85 Twins and save the world! This reminds me of that old TG episode where Clarkson tests the Porsche Turbo that had just gotten ULEV certified.

Quote:
When you drive this car through a really polluted city; Los Angeles, Calcutta, Harrogate(?), something like that; the gas coming out of the exhaust pipe is less toxic than the air going into the engine. And I am not joking, that's true. This then is like a small, efficient, easy to use vacuum cleaner. They should have called it the Porsche Dyson.
Save a tree. Drive a 911 turbo.

Got a replacement kit for 6K HID ballasts and bulbs, although they sent the wrong bulbs.(D2R instead of D2H)

The OLM sequential headlights (rebrand VLands) came with ballasts and H7 bulbs, and for some reason my passenger light went out within a week. Contacted the shipper and he set up the new kit. Got both ballasts installed tonight so they are matching, in case thats a thing like dual GPUs in computers?

Either way, Im not enjoying the color difference in bulbs either. The passenger feels more blue, and i thought it mightve been from the new ballast but after installing the driver side ballast it still shows a difference. Could be the driver side light was used for an hour more... i dunno - my first time ever using HIDs so I know nothin about them. At least the ballasts are now mounted with 3M on my crash bar haha. The other ballasts are still mounted under the headlight and i dont wanna fuck either at the moment.

hid's shift color as they age-- color shift is directly related to the quality of the bulbs. cheap color shift hard, good bulbs will color shift a little. run them for a week and re-check.

I’m not too concerned about grip since these are just my daily/canyon tire, but road manners are great so far. Not sure why people complain about noise. Probably helps that my track tires are Hankook RS3’s so these are actually slightly quieter in comparison on the highway.

As people have noted, these run a bit wide for their size. I’ll update with some more impressions after taking them to the canyons this weekend. As mentioned I’m not expecting huge levels of grip (actually less grip would be more fun to me), but hoping for good tread life and decent consistency across a wide temperature band.
Took the Federal SS 595 to the canyons today and enjoyed them quite a bit. Grip levels are not super sticky, but the fun part is when you’re approaching the limit, you can get them to lightly sing in all phases of the corner without going into track corner speeds. If you’ve ever driven a max performance summer tire like the Sumitomo HTR Z3, these are somewhat comparable, maybe a half step down in grip. These also feel pretty consistent once they come up to temperature, which is a nice bonus.

Where these tires show their cheapness is sidewall construction. The sidewalls seem to be very soft. Turn-in and steering feel suffer as a result. There is a slight delay after turning the steering wheel, and then the nose digs in and the car turns. This is even with tire pressures at 36 psi cold, which is much higher than I’d normally use. Tread squirm may be contributing since the tread pattern has large voids between the blocks.

Overall I’m very happy with these tires, especially for the price. They are pretty much what I was looking for, minus the soft sidewalls/tread blocks. Fun, cheap, consistent tire that can take hard canyon driving. They don’t have a ton of grip, nor did i expect them to since I have a separate set of track wheels. I haven’t had any problems with road noise, even at 75-80 mph. I’ll update again if anything changes with these.

Retired my gold GC STi wheels with old Pirelli winters. Slapped on some newer Blizzak WS80 rubber on steelies. Also removed the wheel spacers. I hate the tucked look but it's only for winter.

Awesome!
After reading all the reviews, I decided these were going to be what I really wanted too.

The J2 I have now clunk. These will fix the problem.
