along with the one you shared shows that the Z4 also has more power, quite a bit more power, 382hp vs. the Supra's 335hp. This partnership is vastly different than Toyota's partnership with Subaru, that one feels much more streamlined, much more friendly, the partnership with BMW almost feels toxic, like the two brands are trying to get 1-up on each other. But I don't get why the Toyota version makes less when it's the same engine, and why Toyota would even allow this to happen. My entire argument today about why the Supra will most likely be a flop is because the power figure doesn't match it's price point, if it had 382hp I'd be singing a much different song. If it's a tune restriction then sure, most people who buy the car will tune it out and get to that 382hp number pretty quick, but I have a feeling there's much more to it than that, a tune doesn't magically lose 47hp, but I guess this is a turbocharged engine we're talking about, is it possible the boost is turned up more on the Z4, or is there a component that's different in the engine?
of course its toxic. the Germans are assholes, and not to mention that Toyota undercut them BIG time!!!!

i believe the Supra is also underrated think (gentleman's agreement). we been told its more like 370-380hop at the crank. i think its gonna sale quite well. pretty much all the European units have been called for. we'll just have to wait and see how it does in its first year of full years.

Not sure I agree. If you are willing to sink that much money into an old Supra you've bought into it's hype, you are more likely to be a "purist" that will see this Supra as a sell-out.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to set aside current 86 owners would not be interested in the Supra, or at least the marketing folks would think so. In the automotive industry for almost as long as it has existed car lines are set up to move you "up" then next time you purchase. This seems like a next step up for some 86 owners.

If BMW is like VW, the same engine would have different variants with different fuel injectors and turbos etc. I can't believe nobody mentioned about increased reliability from the detune (okay maybe the recycled plastic water pump breaks just as fast so it wouldn't matter much). Toyota aren't even marketing the Supra as bragging rights in a pissing contest, they got to becareful in not contradicting the 86 marketing too much lmao!

27 years also gets us:
Massively changed and restrictive emissions control laws.
Substantially increased mileage requirements.
Weight increases required to meet modern crash safety standards.
Weird and wonderful aero designs to protect pedestrians.

All of these apply to most of the world (contrary to popular belief it is not just California) so to pull that power, keep the weight and cost down, while still meeting all the laws of today is actually pretty impressive.

Horsepower alone doesn't mean squat to me, let's see those 0-60, 1/4 mile, and Nurburgring times!

I don’t give a crap about the BMW’s pricing. My entire argument is the Supra doesn’t make the power it should given its price point, if the same engine is capable of another 47hp that easily, it should be given that 47hp, regardless of what the starting price is of the Z4 I6. I don’t care about that. It’s BMW, it’s going to be overpriced. Nobody is debating that. The debate is why is the Supra lacking power when it’s priced like it should be a 400hp car? If it had the Z4’s power, a lot less people would be complaining. I’m not comparing the Z4 so I honestly don’t understand what possessed you to mention it’s price. That’s irrelevant. The Supra is a $50k car. So is the Corvette and the GT350. My argument all day has been that the Supra needs more power, so if the Z4 is capable of that power with no major engine component changes, why doesn’t the Supra come with the same power, regardless of anything to do with the Z4’s pricing.
People were complaining about the 86 only having 175hp to the wheels, and they would go on to say how bad of a value it was compared to cars the like Genesis coupe. How about you wait until the car is available for testing to figure out what the car 'needs' ?

But a WRX is the same price and has a turbo and AWD. The 86 is overpriced.

I totally agree. Is anyone saying that a Cayman is underpowered and overpriced compared to a Mustang GT350? Well probably, just not anyone who understands the difference in class of cars and in the full packaging.

Again @Borchert97, the car will probably hit 400whp with a tune and E85, or with minimal bolt ons and a tune. Power won’t be an issue for 90% of buyers.

Unless Toyota is doing something major with the tuning of the B58 engine it will have more than the rated horsepower from the factory.

M240i's have the B58 motor rated at the same HP/TQ as the new Supra.

Tons of dynos out there show they have ~360hp at the rear wheel straight from the factory.

You can also slap on a simple piggyback module and boost the HP at the wheel to over 400 with ease.

I've done it on my M240i and retained warranty. Its a little monster.
Dont discount this B58 engine, it has tons of potential.
