I'm VERY intrigued to find out how the balance of the car turns out in STX form considering it is much more netural in stock form than the WRXs. :happy0180:
We already know. My car has had it's suspension done since about July last year. Pushy it is not. Numerous comparisons between other cars like the Corvettes and even Mr. Sparks' RX8 last fall.... not to mention the many cars I get to drive throughout the year.

Well, you can come drive mine if you want... In fact anyone passing through, or who'd want to come to the sticks of PA can come take a ride.

Looking forward to following along!

I just started autocrossing last year so I am pretty new to the whole thing. I was running CS last year without any upgrades at all (including tires). I'm thinking I'm going to be switching to STX this year, just because some of the things I want to do to the car aren't allowed in CS, primarily the wheels I want to go with. I realise I'm not going to be competitive, but I'm just in it to have fun.

I do have one question for you guys. I would really like to change the header to a UEL setup, just because I like the sound better. Unfortunately, its looking like all of the UEL headers that are being developed are going to be catless. I looked at the rules and I think it would be ok, but I was just wondering what your thoughts were? I've got a cat back system right now, but the rest of the exhaust is stock.

Sorry for the thread jack!

-Dave

Are they doing an unequal length header? I see that they are doing the equal length one, but I prefer the sound of the unequal length headers.

They haven't yet, but I bet they will, and for STX you can run a catless header as long as you keep the second cat in the system within 6" of its original location.

Sub'd! I cannot WAIT to start my transition to STX but Im seeing my big hurdle, other than my lack of past experience, will be the fact Im planning on a Koni+Spring setup, less clearance. Hoping that won't be an issue when adding 9" wheels with -2.5F camber.

Looking forward to following this year with all of these Ft86 cars running STX nationally. Sure hope it doesn't get bumped to STR if it does too well!

Yea the rule just says

Quote:
STX, STU – Any high flow catalytic converter(s) are allowed, but
must attach within six inches of the original unit. Multiple catalytic
converters may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the sin-
gle replacement converter may be located no further downstream
than 6” along the piping flow path from the original exit of the fi nal
OE converter.

From my calcs, it shouldn't be. A 17x9 +42 with a 245/40/17 Dunlop Z1 fits snugly up front (only a few mm between the perch and the tire), but you'll have issues dialing in any sort of camber.

Thankfully, in STX, your options are open - you can take camber *out* with the lower bolts and then use camber plates up top. A bit more expensive, but certainly less expensive than coilovers.
