It's the same for my car. I don't think its a flaw, I think the locking mechanism is just really strong. My car has a factory spoiler which I think might make a difference as well.

I used to own a wingless FR-S and now have the BRZ Limited, with factory spoiler - it seems that the dampers are a different to take on the weight of the spoiler. I could close my FR-S with very little force, the BRZ really requires me to push down hard.

I noticed this going from a base FrS to a Monogram with the standard spoiler. I believe the components in the trunk to make it harder to close accomodates the added spoiler.

I almost drove off once with it open thinkin it was fully closed

I have a 2013 BRZ with factory spoiler and the trunk will close and lock under its own weight. "Excessive" force required to lock the trunk certainly suggests something is out of alignment.

I don't have a trunk problem, but I do have the first-to-second gear shift "scrunch" that seems to be prevalent in these cars. I'm becoming fed up with it and plan to take it to the dealer soon.

I wouldn't say excessive, but simply letting gravity do the work won't close it. On my FR-S, I could give it a light flick downwards and it'll shut. The BRZ trunk closes with more of that force, but it feels dampened in how it is shut, a nice "German" feel if you will.

My FRS trunk closes with its' own weight. I've never needed to press down on it.

Man I thought I was the only one. LOL. I have to apply some momentum to mine when closing because like you said it will not close. Even after adding the FiveAD Spoiler, I still have to kinda slam it for it to close, if I let it drop it will not close.

Yeah, don't need to add too much pressure for it to close (no spoiler, FRS). What I don't like is how it barely pops when you open it haha.

Lol seriously.

I actually like that it takes a bit of force. Feels more substantial to me. My '14 Accord's trunk flies up and down like it's made out of paper, it's really cheap feeling and annoying.

Same here. FR-S with OEM spoiler ..... just get it started down and it closes and latches.

@JS + BRZ ..... .
