Petrolheads for Pets @ Red Star Raceway 25th July 2015

Dear Petrolhead!
80 Cars, an Amazing Track and a Wonderful, Heartwarming cause.
Yes, we’re opening entries for our second annual Petrolheads For Pets event!
Don’t let the bikers’ annual Toy Runs hog all the feelgood space; Petrolheads have Hearts too!
Petrolheads for Pets and the Tokyota Crew will be hosting this year’s event at Red Star Raceway near Delmas, just off of the N4 highway. Imperial Toyota have generously agreed to sponsor a portion of our track costs, which has allowed us to keep entry fees to a minimum (only R550 per car and R75 per passenger!). Speed & Sound and SA Car Club Magazine’s will be covering the event (So look your best!), and Castrol will be donating spot prizes on the day.
But let’s not lose sight of the cause while we are having a great time. All proceeds (and as many donations as you can bring!) will be going to Pro Life Pet Rescue in Nelspruit, they rescue, nurse back to health and re-home up to 400 starving, injured, abused and helpless animals per year. They have a no-kill policy and will do everything possible to give a suffering animal the second shot at the love and happiness it deserves.
Our entries are strictly limited to 80 cars, to ensure that everyone has as much quality time on the fun and safe, but challenging 4 kilometre track as possible. So participation is strictly on a first to pay basis and only pre-registrations will be accepted. Please see the attached entry forms and flyers for more details.
We kick off at 07:30 on the 25th of July 2015 with registration and scrutineering, then we’ll have a driver’s briefing at 08:45, followed by the track opening at 9:00 sharp. We will split entrants into four groups based on experience and/or car capacity. Your safety is our first priority!
Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates (https://www.facebook.com/petrolheads...?ref=bookmarks) and make a turn at Pro Life’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/adoptpet?fref=ts ) to see what sterling work they do, you never know, you might just end up adopting a Friend for Life!

See You There!

Oh yeah, I'm in!!
I am so looking forward to this event.

And to those who think I'll be easy meat, I've just ordered a new set of semis, so pasop!!

I'll be staying over at the track on Saturday night, and competing in the Michelin Cup Time Attack as a day entry on Sunday.
Of course, that's if I'm OK physically for back-to-back track days, because Red Star is seriously tiring hard work for a wrinkly.

My best lap time at my first outing at Red Star was 2m27.7
My next target is 2m22.222 - just because it's such a cool number

Maybe just put the branch code on the entry form. There seems to be a single branch code for Capitec (470010) but when faced with a blank field on your internet banking this isn't immediately obvious

EDIT: for those of you who have seen my ghetto GoPro mount made of PVC piping, do you think that will pass scrutineering? It's robust enough and securely fastened to not have shaky footage so..

EDIT EDIT: looking at the scrutineering form, what's the easiest and most reliable way to secure a battery?

Haven't seen it, but if its secure it should be okay

OEM Battery clamp is perfectly adequate

A lap of Red Star
Not quite the 2m22.222 that I've been aiming for, but close.

See you there...

(Edit : new version of the same lap showing more instruments on-screen)

That kink at the end of the pit straight (seen roughly @ 2:16) looks freakin difficult! Progressively slowing through the corners after picking up so much speed looks scary :|

Yep, you need big goolies to brake late there - it's quite scary.
But I still need a lot of "growth"...

Here's how the pro's do it. This is Mark Cronje in his Ford Fiesta rally car.
You'll see that he turns into the left hand kink still with foot flat, and only starts braking once he's in that corner. Enjoy.

What I feel quite good about is that he's only 10 secs quicker than me around Red Star.
That's 10 secs / 143 = 7% quicker.
I can live with that...
