TRD Exhaust

Hi guys im contemplating getting a Trd exhaust for my 86 when she arrives, also with the TRD body kit. Is the exuast worth the money? What sort of gains can be expected? as it is only an axle back system. The thing is we have to wait out the warranty period before we can fiddle with these cars so i was thinkn why not get the TRD exaust and filter and njoy the car till the warranty expires. Iv driven the Trd version and it seems to sound a tad bit better over the stock not sure if actualy makes a power difference as iv not driven a stock 86. Any ideas or opinions to help me decide?

The thing that I don't like about the TRD exhaust is that it's a quad pipe, and it's too expensive for such a small(if any) gain. The TRD front spoiler and side skirts look quite nice though. I'd say opt for only the cosmetic additions and wait to buy an exhaust that not only looks better, but sounds better as well(at least that's my opinion). Just have a look at some of the options that are out there - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6064

Are there different trd exhaust? I have seen the quads you are talking about , but the only one I've seen available now is the semi circle tip dual.

Tap'd from my G-Nex

The one that's fitted to the stock exhaust tip opening is the TRD USA kit. The TRD Japan kit is a quad tip that fits into the TRD body kit.

Here in SA the only TRD exhaust version we have is the quad pipes and they look quite nice though thats more for the dutch, Jap cars need 2 fat cans on either sidelol
The sales person I spoke to said the quad pipes gives the car 15hp extra???? what do you guys make of that? Wow the TRD panel filter is uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugly!

@cobra 788 thanx for those threads- i still think the TRD kit looks the best whats ur take? Deep dish rims are needed - rota p45R2 or D2 style rims... but you cant get that pcd in sa

The TRD kit does look nice, and considering the fact that we're in SA it's easier to get the kit. Also it's not as bulky as some of the other kit's out there, and it doesn't sit too low, so you could drop the suspension a bit and still get away without it grinding against the ground.

As far as rims are concerned, I've got a similar issue, I really like the Watanabe f8's, but if I actually want them I'd have to have it imported. Those rota's do look nice BTW.

IMHO the TRD quad exhaust is a waist of money (+- R15K ). I looked at this option when fitting my trd kit and could not justify spending that much money for a change in the back box and 4 pipes. If possible source the USA TRD exhaust that fit into the current back bumper.

I love the TRD quad exhaust look over any of the doubles so I'm getting it.

Here's a link with photo of my red with stock exhaust and @Firefly white with the TRD quad exhaust for a side by side comparison for you.

I can see why people like the quad exhaust but IMO it's just over the top for a car like ours. This is a 2.0 liter ~200chp NA sports car and the exhaust should portray it as such. It's not a 400hp drag car... Those are the tips I'd expect to see on an F430. Drop in a turbo and then I'd be more willing to respect the tips.

Everyone has their own opinion but if we're talking TRD, I think the dual triangular tips fit much cleaner.

... plus speaking of the power of TRD systems, does anyone have a reliable dyno spread of the Dual Tip TRD catback system?

@CoBrA788 for everyday driving the TRD kit it the best as its not in ur face and the lines complemant the car well, its still at a sill price- something 20k. Myb later on il import a cat back system like invidia or greddy which must be bolt on/off so i can jus swop it over whenever she goes in for a service.
@nzer thanx for those pics , both are my fav 86 colours, but i think the white pulls thek it off a tad bit better then the red does.. then again i am getn a red with TRD kit lmao.
@JJGraphiX well each to their own buddy, both styles look good to me but if the TRD muffler will give the car more power and sounds better without voiding the warranty, if the price is not the issue, y nt? true its not a 4pipe M3 and it dosnt have a turbo but in the parking lot it doesnt realy matter.. I knw the 86 is not a fast car and truth be told unless u turbo it urself toyota will not release any turbo version just yet so myt aswell njoy the car, style her up. Thats my point of view, i jus wana see if the quad pipes add extra hp like the dealer claims.

@HellBoy 86 I'm actually getting a dark grey TRD version shortly so will post some pics. Toyota is taking the red back as it wasn't the colour I ordered and are swapping it out at RRP.
