Rear studs installed on 07/26/2022 at 2,215 miles (rear passenger side was changed on 06/10/2023 at 8,079 miles due to user error). So probably 20+ hpde weekends, and 50+ wheel changes. Always loosened by hand, always tightened properly with a torque wrench. Swapped from street to track wheels 10 days ago with zero problems, did a couple sessions, drove 4 hours back home.

So, story time. Last year, I picked up a set of Accu-lign hub stands from Mittler Bros.

https://www.mittlerbros.com/accu-lign.html (TL;DR: Don't buy these for an 86)

First I had to send back the wheel adapters to have the lug seats deepened so they'd work with stock wheel studs. Then I had brake caliper clearance issues in the front, so I got some amazon 35mm spacers. Then I finally got them on the car, and..... the front end wouldn't settle to ride height no matter how much I bounced on it.

I made sure my grease plates weren't binding due to the point loading of the bearings.
I disconnected the front swaybar to make sure those tight bushings weren't binding it.
I put normal wheels and tires back on, and although I had to jostle it with my body weight on the tow hook it did settle.
I took off the caliper and spacers and went back to the hub stands, and it still wouldn't settle.

The only remaining cause I could think of was that because the loading point with the hub stands is so far outboard, it puts a huge inward side load into the strut that completely binds it up. Side forces would normally be outward from a cambered wheel and tire just sitting, or outboard wheel cornering forces. I gave up and haven't tried again since then, but your statement above does lend weight to the theory.

(The rear had no issues settling, probably because it's a multi-link and doesn't break a sweat with side loads.)

Got the OS Giken broken in (500 miles), changed the fluid (picture of drain plug attached), drove 50 miles to Road Atlanta. Did two 15-minute sessions, let the car cool down for about an hour, jumped in for a 3rd session, started the car and heard a grinding sound from the rear as the car started moving... Had the car towed back home, drained the fluid (very dark and thick), the drain plug split into 3 pieces... That's a first one. Looks like the diff clutches seizes from overheating, will know more when I send the diff back to Shaftworks for a post mortem...

Last but not least, time for a little bit more power:

JDL EL header + overpipe, Swain Tech White Lighting coating
JDL ultra quiet front pipe
Whoosh Motorsports o2 defouler
New OEM gaskets because I don't trust JDL gaskets

Gerald Just flex fuel kit

Currently being tuned by Zach@CSG.

Sent the OS Giken back to Shaftworks for an inspection. Recommended more cool down after each session, otherwise everything else checks out. I have no time or will at this point for another diff swap so this one will be up for sale.

Just wondering what made you go with Swain Tech White Lighting coating over the coating JDL offer ?

Much thicker, virtually indestructible, should result in even more heat reduction than the coating offered by JDL. But I did run JDL coating on my '17 BRZ and never had problems with it so nothing wrong going with it.

Almost done with the flex fuel tune. Went to Road Atlanta, hit a PB of a 1:41 and blew the transmission the very last session on Saturday. Drove back home only having gears 1, 2, and 5. Was planning to change engine oil, tranny, and diff fluid after the weekend.

Getting a built transmission from Jacks Transmissions, if this one goes, will be getting the CD009.

New tranny is in. Had to press out the locating dowels as they are already on the engine block. The TOB was completely shot, spinning freely. Transferred over the Verus clutch fork and pivot, put a new TOB in, reinstall was super easy, a few wiggles and the tranny slid completely in. Filled the tranny with Liqui Moly and already put around 100 miles on it.

Latest oil analysis, I mentioned a possibility of installing an oil cooler now that I can see oil temps in the EcuTek dashboard (266 but saw as high as 277, will need to confirm next hpde weekend).

Stop messing around, SADEV sequential....

Since you are taking it out every few months anyway....sequential should go the same distance before needing a rebuild.....

That's neat.

What oil weight were you running?

While 260s-270s sure seem higher than I'd like to see, it does seem like modern oils hold up really well to high temps. I got Motul 300v up to 290 for one session on my old STi... oil analysis didn't show any negative effects from it.
