In my testing, the gold foil didn't do anything. It might have actually shortened the life of the coil (only lasted 2,022 miles with the foil).

Not sure if I can post the link since I'm affiliated, but if you just search SSFA2X-4 on FTspeed you'll find them.

Gold tape should always be used regardless of OEM or aftermarket coil.

Looking at the icefabrication.com site, why wouldn't one just buy the 2015+ connectors at $12 each and repin our 2013 ones?

Seems much cleaner and easier than cutting and splicing using their $90 kit.

I'm very wiring competent and can do either. Just wondering if there are hidden gotchas I'm not seeing.

That is correct the ebay blue benchmark coil failed. Swapped it with one of the two good OEM coils I had and my CEL hasn't come back. Before I was getting it every session.

OTL now sells an OEM rev1 to rev2 connector adapter. Planning on buying those to go along with a set of used rev2 coil packs for $100 on ebay.

Can't find it elsewhere, not even directly from OTL.
