For the M96, which was discontinued in 2005 sure. For the M97 that was built starting in 2005, no. You cannot service the IMS. The only thing that $3000 could be used for is a down payment on full engine rebuild haha.

The tail is tingling!

There are subforums for other vehicles and for comparisons of 86/BRZ/etc with other vehicles.

I'm sure these reliability problems have been discussed there many times — but if they haven't those subforums will be more appropriate for the mostly-Porsche discussions, and it will be much easier for future readers to find and navigate.

Thanks for confirming I'm not taking crazy pills.

IIRC there is an aftermarket oil squirter you can mount on the bearing to feed it fresh oil, but that's about all you can do. And pray to your deities of choice.

The aftermarket IMS bearing has proper oiling engineering and solves the problem. This one is serviceable later on. Now back to the original thread title.....

I think first Gen + Hybrid Gen1/Gen2 engine @Opie will be the best of both worlds. Plus my first gen is paid for

That one may become a project for later date, taking a engine blown frs and doing that swap.

Any good reason to stick with 1st Gen?

How does that even work? You’d have to over-bore the heads to 92mm?

Edit: yet it’s 94mm, oops

I could be up for that some years from now when my engine has really high miles.

Yes. They've all told us. Over and over. Needs more power! And a turbo!
We're just too pig headed to receive the knowledge of the ages (10-11yo).

Oh. And it's ugly too.

If money is not an issue, I'm buying the new Z06 Vette with the flat plane crank. AFT Chevy. I like the concept of the new one, not so much the looks. But haven't seen one in person yet to get a good feel.

The youtubers are sure kissing ass hardcore style about it. Little too much, must pay well.

Actually 94.0mm
Working on several solutions to reach proper CR; thicker head gaskets, milling the head or different pistons...work in progress
