SOS. Monterey area. Belt tensioner/belt

Just called AAA. Belt idler seized and snapped my belt. Sitting on the side of 17. It's the metal pulley in the middle.

The plan was to go to laguna Seca tomorrow and would love to still make that happen. If anyone has a lead on a belt tensioner or belt, it would be hugely appreciated.

I'm going to have it towed to Victory Toyota in Monterey.

Think we found one. Gonna swap it in the hotel parking lot.

On a positive note. We had the coolest tow truck driver in history. Total car nutt, loves initial D, bought his son an AE86 and then he dropped us at turn 12 for beers.

Hmmm.... Any warning signs or noises?

I noticed my BRZ has a hot burned rubber smell after a hard drive and I see belt dust around the engine bay. Wonder if the pulley is seizing causing the belt to cook.

Not.uncommon for a bad bearing in an idler pulley to happen.

Pulley started to make a loud knocking sound, then went away. Started to pull over and the battery light came on and I new instantly what had happened. Not suprised as I've replaced a few before on other cars, just happened at the worst time.

I noticed I'm beginning to have the same smell. Sort of new to the car world. Is there anyway to tell if this is going to happen to my car as well? Or ways to prevent it?

The easiest way to check, is to detension the belt tensioner and hand spin all of the idler pulleys. Feel for kind of a roller skate wheel or grinding bearing. The tensioner can be locked into an untensioned setting with a small Allen key and the belt can remain in place.
